  • My First Ultra: 117 Helen Mino Faukner

    Helen Mino Faukner has been named the  #7 female ultra runner of the year by ultra running magazine. She recently had a podium finish at one of the most competitive ultra marathons in the world , CCC 100k. She is positive, always smiling and always wearing heart shaped glasses.  We can’t say enough good things about Helen. At age 27 she has managed to figure out a few things that take most of us a lot longer. She is living her life aligned with her values and not letting her ego get in the way. We talk about her background, the coaching style that works best for her, how yoga has helped her trail running, and her upcoming races.     Mary Davison is an 82-year-old long distance backpacker; she is a retired Pastor and Grandmother of 10. She began long distance backpacking at age 60 and has accomplished the Triple Crown, The Appalachian Trail (2,198 miles) , Pacific Crest Trail (2,653 miles) , and the Continental Divide (3,028 miles). She is also the author of two books with a third on the way.  Mary has redefined what it means to be old. On this podcast we discuss Mary’s accomplishments as an older backpacker. We also discuss the fear that keeps us from doing things and how to overcome it. Mary is an inspiration and wants everyone to know they don’t have to stop hiking because of their age. On this podcast we talk her recent win at the USATF 24-hour national championship, what that means to her and what she hopes to gain from that experience. We also discuss a recent 100-mile race, the Bear 100. This is one of the best stories of mental toughness and resiliency we have ever heard.
