Episodes

  • Coming to America ft. Natasha Rothwell

    02/10/2015 Duration: 01h43min

Natasha Rothwell (Saturday Night Live, Wild'N Out) drops by to review Eddie Murphy's Coming to America. This is Eddie at the height of his Hollywood powers and damn if there isn't a lot to break down. Yes this podcast is just a few minutes shy of the length of the movie, but there's no end to the directions an Eddie Murphy conversation can go. The man is talented and complicated. Natasha has no love for the Swirl but that doesn't stop Jerah. Don't worry everybody: Hancock makes an appearance as always. Next week we controversially review Wild Wild West.

  • Blade

    25/09/2015 Duration: 01h10min

1998 was a simpler time for Wesley Snipes, tax wise, because he wasn't paying them. Also the film world was not yet over run with vampires, pale or otherwise. Enter Blade, the sword slinging, leather jacket rocking, tatt'd up head and hair cut from the future having bad bad dude. The boys break down how nice it was to have something they could dress up as for Halloween and how dope this movie was or wasn't for The Cause. Next week we have guest Natasha Rothwell and we'll be reviewing Eddie Murphy's Coming to America!

  • Blazing Saddles

    18/09/2015 Duration: 01h12min

The 1974 Mel Brooks satirical Western "Blazing Saddles" has Jerah furious. Not even the best kind of swirl can temper the blaze that roars inside of him. And try as they do, neither Braylock nor James III can bring him around. But just when you're counting it out, The Cause delivers a stunning review. This also might be the best Hancock drop that James III ever does. Soak it up James! Next week we review Blade.

  • Training Day

    11/09/2015 Duration: 01h14min

Denzel Washington won an Oscar for best actor in a movie that he wasn't even the lead in, or was he? He was. Maybe. It's not easy for a black man to win an Oscar. Jerah got himself a Carmel Swirl, which is something like progress. But hey, did Denzel black it up in this movie or is he just Denzel being Denzel? It's a subtle distinction and we're here to make that distinction. The Cause is about as real as it gets this week. Under heavy pressure from Jerah, James sticks to his rating because he's a gentlemen and a scholar. Next week we review Blazing Saddles.

  • In The Heat of the Night ft. Keegan-Michael Key

    04/09/2015 Duration: 01h38min

Well, this happened. Keegan-Michael Key showed up like a burst through the comedic heavens and landed in our podcast basement to record the most intense, hilarious, and in depth discussion of the classic Sidney Poitier flick 'In The Heat of The Night.' Key had the knowledge and energy of ten men, which made it impossible to edit a minute of this. I don't think you'll mind. Maybe Black Men Can't Jump in Hollywood, but they did land one of the most dynamic comedic talents of a generation and he truly brought the noise, son! If you're interested in acting, film, history, the craft, the biz, the culture of representing black men on screen, or really just thinking critically about the challenges and triumphs of Mr. Sidney Poitier and the effect he had on actors, well then we got you son.

  • Love And Basketball ft. Pheobe Robinson

    28/08/2015 Duration: 01h26min

With James III out this week, Jon and Jerah introduce the first guest to the show: Pheobe Robinson! She absolutely crushes it with Love and Basketball. This episode gets deeply personal. Y'all ready to get into it? Y'all better be. Then when your head is still spinning from this goodness, at the end we announce a guest for next week that will flat out drop your jaw. Y'all don't even know.

  • Blue Streak

    21/08/2015 Duration: 01h13min

Braylock, James III, and Jerah can't believe that they are reviewing this mediocre movie. That doesn't stop them from breaking down the highs and lows of Martin Lawrence's career, dance moves, characters and spectacular meltdown. "The Swirl" gets straight up raunchy, but Jerah somehow works #yesallwomen into it.

  • Barbershop

    14/08/2015 Duration: 01h11min

Hey man, they made Ice Cube the lead of a movie and that movie made about 70 million dollars. There's a lot to break down when you look at the 2002 comedy Barbershop directed by Tim Story. It has an 82% rating on Rotten tomatoes. 82%!?! In addition to an insightful assault on the structure of this movie and the actors chosen to play in it, find out what the Black Men Can't Jump crew thinks about their own haircuts in relationship to Fredrick Douglass.

  • Beverly Hills Cop

    07/08/2015 Duration: 01h06min

Jonathan Braylock, James III, and Jerah Milligan break down Eddie Murphy's seminal blockbuster smash Beverly Hills Cop. We learn about "The Swirl." We learn about "The Cause." And we learn about Hancock!? Also, we tackle the complicated question of who killed the Big Bad?

  • Inaugural Episode

    27/07/2015 Duration: 32min

Jonathan Braylock, James III, and Jerah Milligan introduce their podcast in this provocative, militant, spontaneously acapella first episode. How many black leading actors can you name off the top of the dome? Why is every rapper also a movie star? How beautiful is Taye Diggs? All this and more. This week's episode is sponsored by Squarespace, Naturebox, and Tipjar
