  • Episode 39 - Planet Hunter

    30/10/2019 Duration: 26min

This week on Wellington Rocks we talk to alternative stoner rockers, Planet Hunter. Formed from the ashes of Wellington bands Mangle & Gruff and Killing Bear, Planet Hunter formed in 2017 with bassist Jedaiah Van Ewijk, vocalist Cormac Ferris, guitarist William Saunders and drummer David McGurk. Influenced by a variety of progressive, stoner and alternative rock acts, Planet Hunter quickly made themselves a name on the live circuit opening for the likes of Ultranauts, Opium Eater and Into Orbit amongst others and released the raw single "The Bigger They Are". Now they are set to release their debut four track EP on November 1st, recorded in a shipping container in Tawa, taking the DIY noise of alt rock to Wellington's regional suburbs. We talk about the recording process, how the band formed, the writing process and dealing with "reject songs" and ask, is it possible for a dive bar to get sick of a band playing there too much? Wellington Rocks is bought to you by Access Radio Wellington and NZ On Air. C

  • Episode 35- Into Orbit (Kinesis Album Breakdown)

    11/06/2019 Duration: 52min

This week on Wellington Rocks we welcome back instrumental post-metal duo, Into Orbit and debut a new kind of podcast episode, the album breakdown. Kinesis is Into Orbit's third full length release, dropping onto Bandcamp at the start of May this year. When compared to the debut, Caverns and it's follow up, Unearthing, Kinesis can very much be seen as a hybrid between the two. It combines the atmospheric ambiance of Caverns with the heavy layered riffing and varied song structures of Unearthing, while still bringing some new tricks to the table with shifting beats, layered harmonic guitar leads and ever more wacky guitar noises. Wellington Rocks talks to guitarist Paul Stewart about the making of the album, the methods used to piece the tracks together and how important the live show was, as we go through four tracks off the album in depth. Wellington Rocks is brought to you by Access Radio Wellington and NZ On Air. Into Orbit- Kinesis is available here: https://intoorbit.bandcamp.com/album/kinesis Yo
