Synopsis
Running is great, so why aren't the podcasts? Bad Boy Running is a podcast for runners who are bored of the dull and dry podcasts currently on offer. Hosted by friends Jody Raynsford and David Hellard, both running journalists, bloggers and lovable idiots, the show features the conversations they'd have in the pub focusing as much on the camaraderie and social side of the sport as well as the technical. Whether you're a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon runner or ultramarathon runner, you'll find something in here to be offended by. Bad Boy Guarantee.

06/05/2017 Duration: 01h54minIn this episode the guys discuss the recent MdS with the person who came 3rd place, Captain Tom Evans! This Brit came from, seemingly, nowhere and did incredibly well on his first ever multi-day ultra. He's certainly one to look out for in the future and the guys discuss his training and experience of the race. After the main interview there's a recap of the progress of some of the Do Badders who did the Marathon des Sables this year and then some talk of this year's Running Awards. Ep51 - Adventure Racing Interview with Tom Davies
20/04/2017 Duration: 01h56minJody and David are joined by Tom Davies an adventure racer who has taken part in not one, but TWO insane world championships. They discuss the dangers that he faced such as crocodiles, white water rivers, and, perhaps worst of all, riding a bike. Despite Jody's dismay at the fact that David got a cyclist on the podcast, this turns out to be an episode not to be missed. If you've never heard of adventure racing before this is a nice (and inspiring) overview of a sport that can be both strategic and exciting. Ep50 - SPECIAL - John Kelly on finishing Barkley Marathons
14/04/2017 Duration: 01h22minIn this BBR Special Jody and David talk to John Kelly, endurance athlete and the only finisher at this year's Barkley Marathons. John reveals his journey from not running to competing at Barkley three times until he finally achieved his goal of finishing, how he trains for Barkley and the mind games you go through when you're out on the course. David isn't subtle in trying to pump him for all the information he can about entering, while Jody sees many parallels with his 4 Laps of Nuts drama (no-one else does, though...) Ep 80 - The A to Z of Bad Boy Running (Part 2)
24/03/2017 Duration: 02h04minJust like last week, Jody and David were worried. New listeners have flocked to the podcast in their tens, but how would they keep up with the obtuse in-jokes without alienating the new audience? Well, as one smart Do-Badder suggested, they decided to record an A-Z of Bad Boy Running jokes covering all the references and in-jokes that have been made throughout the previous episodes so that it all makes sense! This was advertised as a two-parter but, due to the sheer quantity, will now end up being a three-parter. Perhaps U should be for Unfulfilled Promises, right Josh? Anyway... Ep47 - Colin McCourt on losing weight and hitting a sub-16 5k
18/03/2017 Duration: 01h59minToday the guys talk to Colin McCourt, a former pro-athlete who is documenting his transformation back into shape. His friends have all bet him £100 that he can't do a sub-16 minute 5k by the end of this year. If he wins, that's a nice windfall, if he loses, he has to get seventeen first and second names tattooed on his body. David and Jody start off with the basic questions about how's training going, whether it's realistic, before, in classic Do-Badder style, they veer off course and end up talking up about how social media could be used by those who are of a higher profile to bring more attention to the sport. If you want to get somebody on the podcast then find us on Facebook by searching Bad Boy Running Podcast and asking to be accepted into the group, from there it's simply a case of making suggestions. Ep 79 - The A to Z of Bad Boy Running (Part 1)
17/03/2017 Duration: 01h50minJody and David were worried. With all the new listeners, how were they going to continue making obtuse in-jokes and not alienate the audience? Well, as one smart Do-Badder suggested: why not record an A-Z of Bad Boy Running covering all the references and in-jokes we made in all the previous episodes so it ALL MAKES SENSE. (Of course, you could listen to all the previous episodes but this is a much more effective way of aggressively cornering your way to Do-Badder expertise...) This may be useful if you're training for a marathon, ultramarathon, the Marathon des Sables or any OCR race (for SEO purposes, of course). If you want to get somebody on the podcast then find us on Facebook by searching Bad Boy Running Podcast and asking to be accepted into the group, from there it's simply a case of making suggestions. Ep 78 - Jody runs 75% of Winter Nuts
10/03/2017 Duration: 01h41minIt's finally here! After a year of building up to Nuts Challenge, Jody finally gets the chance to run the course. Spoiler: it didn't go quite to plan. David and special guest Pete Rees from Mudstacle go back over the race with Jody to discover what went well, what went badly and what makes Nuts such a special race (hint: it's not the abuse). Jody reveals all his mistakes in the build-up (including an abortive attempt at CrossFit) and his cut-off woes. If you've not watched the video, check out the attempt here on MustacleTV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0eDj-GId1c&t=312s And he answers the BIG QUESTION: will he attempt 4 laps of Winter Nuts next year? Ep45 - Pete Rees on Winter Nuts Challenge and training for the Marathon des Sables
28/02/2017 Duration: 01h58minOn the advent of the Winter Nuts Challenge, Jody and David welcome back Pete Rees from Mudstacle to give some last minute tips to Jody who is taking on all four laps. It turns out Jody hasn't factored in a few important points, such as the cut-off time, and the chaps ponder whether he's actually going to make it. Pete also fills us in on his epic Marathon des Sables training, including running the Pilgrim's multi-day ultra and running part of the Monarch's Way overnight to prepare for the long day. If you're running Nuts or the MdS, you've got to listen to this episode. Remember, it could be the last one Jody appears in.... Ep 76 - Barefoot and Forefoot Running
24/02/2017 Duration: 01h38minHave you ever considered changing styles? Will it make you more efficient? Will you be a faster runner? Having switched styles in the past David offers his view on why he did it, having had run-ins with shoes that forced him to change running styles, Jody explains why he hasn't. All of this as well as barefoot running, Chi Running and the seemingly oxymoronic 'barefoot shoes' are discussed in what turns out to be a dangerously informative podcast. Enjoy! Ep43 - Lowri Morgan on running the Jungle Marathon, 6633 and 333 ultras
08/02/2017 Duration: 01h36minIn this interview the guys get the chance to talk to one of the coolest, toughest people on the planet. Lowri Morgan is one of only 6 people (ever) to finish the 350 mile non-stop marathon in the Arctic and not only can she survive extreme cold, she can do heat too as she finished in the top 10 on her first ever ultra in the Amazonian jungle. She has won BAFTAs, jumped out of planes, and she has met the Queen. Her incredible achievements are matched by how down-to-earth she is and this chatty, relaxed podcast is almost the opposite of the BBR way since it is both informative and useful. This is one interview you do not want to miss. If there is anybody that you would like to hear interviewed on the Podcast then why not suggest it in our Facebook group? Ep42 - The Final Tough Guy and Marathon Training
01/02/2017 Duration: 01h43minThe main themes for this podcast are the final ever Tough Guy and advice for this stage of training for spring marathons. When I say themes, I use it in the loosest possible sense as everything is discussed really. Special Forces Hell Week is back on so that requires a brief analysis, we discover that David hates Seinfeld, and, rather generously, the guys spend about 20 minutes plugging other podcasts. When they get around to discussing marathon training, they are actually quite helpful. What is the Maffetone method? What should you be eating? How many miles should you be logging before that upcoming spring marathon? Rules are debunked and approved in this genuinely quite useful episode. If you have any contributions then be sure to join the Facebok group! In fact even if you don't have anything to add then definitely join it anyway, it's a lot of fun. David then takes us through what he's been up to; from his Pato filled presentation at the MdS Expo in London, to his abuse (and slight faux pas) at the darts, to his marathoning success. Ep38 - How to stay injury free with Gary from Six Physio
10/11/2016 Duration: 01h26minThey guys open with how much (or little) running they've both been doing and talk about upcoming races. We then find out what David's old school reports said about his sporting capabilities. The guys then bring in Gary from Six Physio to talk about the work they do and answer some Do-Badder questions. Just to be clear, he also answers some sensible, not Do-Badder questions which (unfortunately) makes this another incredibly informative episode. David then tells Jody how much hashing he's going to be doing before the Myanmar Marathon. To join the conversation, why not go to the Bad Boy Running Facebook Group?
