  • The true face of crime

    03/06/2019 Duration: 35min

I consider myself somewhat of a superhero, Superman, to be exact. I trawl the streets by day, sniffing out news and helping to set the agenda. By night, moonlight, I like to tell the stories that won’t make it on the news agenda. Crime is rife in South Africa. Ours is said to be the rape capital of the world, although many might argue that our statistics are skewed. Be that as it may, every South African knows someone who has been a victim of crime. Not a unique stretch by the world imagination, I would gather. I have covered multitudes of crime scenes. I have seen the burnt out cadaver of a shack fire victim. That image haunts me to this day. But the Northcliff murders struck a chord with me. It spurned me to seek out the true face of crime. I covered this particular crime as a journalist. The who: three family members. The what: three bodies found burnt out in a field. The when: on a Sunday night. The why: Money. The where: Johannesburg, South Africa. It was rote journalism. Sensationalist. Utterly meaning

Over the next few weeks, we are going to go on a journey of Biblical worship. We can learn much about worship by studying the Tabernacle of Moses, the Tabernacle of David and the Psalms. So, let’s begin this journey at the entrance of the Tabernacle of Moses. The one and only entry point to the Tabernacle was the gate and in the same way the one and only entry point to worshiping God is through His Son Jesus (Yeshua). John 14:6 Jesus (Yeshua) said to him, “I am the way, and the truth and the life! No one comes to the Father except through me.” Just as there was one

  • Ouma Titties

    16/04/2019 Duration: 26min

the coloured questionIt is said, that in South Africa, most people classified “coloured”, can only trace their parentage back about four generations. In order to fit in, people were forced to wipe out where they came from and who they were. And that’s why nobody in my family ever spoke of the famed Ouma Titties (at least not until it was safe to do so – until long after the dawn on democracy). Ouma TittiesThe podcast De Bijbel is part one in a series documenting my family tree. I come from a quintessential South African “coloured” family. Trevor Noah wrote a book on the subject. As a coloured person, little is known about ones black ancestry. This was a social necessity. So, when my mother alluded to a Zulu grandmother, I was intrigued to say the least.
