Our guest this episode is Brian Nutter, former first-call Nashville studio and touring ace guitar player who most notably worked with Keith Urban for years. He's also toured with Dierks Bentley, Taylor Swift, and a list longer than my house improvements to-do list. These days Brian is building Nutter Guitars in his shop outside of Nashville and teaching building skills at the Musician's Institute Guitar Craft Academy, an accredited luthier training school. 2020 has been difficult for most all of us but Brian has had a particularly rough road and he chronicles his near-death experience with a sunflower seed shell in our conversation. In addition to holding down the guitar position in The Roots and on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Show he released an album last year by the name of Hundred Watt Heart. We talked about the musicians that have influenced him throughout his career, how he landed in The Roots, his connection to Vernon Reid, and of course the infamous Prince incident. I was very happy to have Don Gunn on the podcast this episode. Don is responsible for a lot of great sounding recordings and mixes (some that we've worked on together, even) including some Couch Riffs performance videos as of late.
