    16/09/2020 Duration: 01h46min

A phenomenal guitarist and sweet guy, he's an easy hang a very casual conversationalist. He was also one of the earliest guests on the first version of what Couch Riffs used to exist as and absolutely shredded the Slash solo on Always On The Run by Lenny Kravitz. Dave Rude teaches guitar lessons online and if you're interested in speaking to him about distance learning with him you can reach him HERE. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much I did. • Ep. 109 : John Oates

    14/09/2020 Duration: 01h17min

Our guest for this episode is John Oates and I couldn't be happier. John has been living in Nashville and exploring his roots music roots for some time now. He has a live album coming out September 18 (2020) and it was recorded at the legendary Station Inn in Nashville, which you've all heard me talk about on the podcast in the past. I recently finished John's 2017 autobiography, Change of Season, and I highly recommend that if you enjoy musician's stories (I'm guessing you do). • Ep. 108 : Brian Nutter (Nutter Guitars / Keith Urban)

    09/09/2020 Duration: 02h26min

Our guest this episode is Brian Nutter, former first-call Nashville studio and touring ace guitar player who most notably worked with Keith Urban for years. He's also toured with Dierks Bentley, Taylor Swift, and a list longer than my house improvements to-do list. These days Brian is building Nutter Guitars in his shop outside of Nashville and teaching building skills at the Musician's Institute Guitar Craft Academy, an accredited luthier training school. 2020 has been difficult for most all of us but Brian has had a particularly rough road and he chronicles his near-death experience with a sunflower seed shell in our conversation. He's on the mend now and we're glad to see him back in action. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. • Ep. 107 : Jean-Paul Gaster (Clutch)

    07/09/2020 Duration: 01h58min

Our guest on this episode is the incredibly cool and immensely talented Jean-Paul Gaster, the drummer of Clutch. I had the pleasure of watching a string of Clutch shows from side of stage and this experience got me re-excited about the band and specifically I was blown away by Jean-Paul's powerful drumming. I've been talking about that month's experiences for 10 years and finally got to ask him in this conversation if the story about his drumming that I've been telling all this time was true. It was. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. Jean-Paul is at least as cool a conversationalist as he is a drummer. Thanks for listening and for your continued support! Our guest for this episode is the perpetually cool Terry Date, producer and mixing engineer for bands such as Soundgarden, Pantera, Deftones, Slayer and the list goes on. Terry's track record is very impressive and when it came time for my band, Loaded, to make an album with him a few years back I was well nervous. But, what an easy guy to work with and a man with legendary stories! I was happy to have him share his career trajectory here and tell some fun stories along the way. Our guest for this episode is Doug Kauer of Kauer Guitars out of Sacramento CA. Doug's embrace of technology to help him create and build consistent and great guitars is something we admire greatly at Couch Riffs. Did we mention that they're beautiful, too? And, if that wasn't enough Doug has a heart of gold and has done a number of charity guitars this year during a time when it would be very easy to adopt a more selfish attitude. Thank you Doug! I hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it.  If you would like to support the Couch Riffs Podcast or the Video Series please share, comment, rate and review where every possible! Our guest on this episode is Jack Bates of Smashing Pumpkins and also Peter Hook & The Light. We talk a bit about sports for a while, which is a first on the podcast I'm pretty sure. Then, we get around to talking about music, playing bass, touring, and life in the time of Covid. I had a great time speaking with Jack and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!  If you enjoy the Couch Riffs podcast and/or videos please consider supporting us with a monthly pledge of as little as .99/month. • Ep. 102 : Paul Gilbert (Racer X/Mr. Big)

    19/08/2020 Duration: 02h21min

Our guest on this episode is the infinitely impressive and equally humble Paul Gilbert. Paul was in to the spotlight at a young age as a hyper-technical shred guitarist, GIT instructor, and leader of Racer X and later Mr Big. Over the years Paul's playing has evolved, matured, and continues to impress players and music fans all over the world. He continues to be a huge inspiration to me and it was a pleasure to host him on the podcast. He is an excellent story teller and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Go check out his online guitar school HERE!  If you're enjoying this podcast and/or the videos we are producing please leave a 5-star rating and a positive review where ever you're listening. • Ep. 101 : Kirk Douglas (The Roots)

    17/08/2020 Duration: 01h49min

Our guest for this episode is Kirk Douglas of The Roots. Kirk has probably found himself in more extraordinary musical situations than any of our guests before him. In addition to holding down the guitar position in The Roots and on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Show he released an album last year by the name of Hundred Watt Heart. If you're a fan of nasty guitar riffs and tones, Gibson's through Marshalls, and vocals that meet eye to eye with outstanding guitar performances you should check this album out. We talked about the musicians that have influenced him throughout his career, how he landed in The Roots, his connection to Vernon Reid, and of course the infamous Prince incident. I couldn't help myself, we were already half way there in natural conversation! I hope you enjoy this conversation as much I did.  If you like the Couch Riffs podcast and/or our videos please let the world know by leaving a 5-star rating and positive review for us! • Ep. 100 : Jason USA (CEO Chibson USA)

    06/08/2020 Duration: 02h45min

Our 100th guest is Jason Dove, a very funny comedian, musician, and creator and operator of Chibson USA which is, of course, the very thing that Instagram was invented for (I'm pretty sure). There were quite a lot of laughs in this episode but we managed to get serious a few times. Jason has an interesting path that brought him to where he's at now with Chibson USA and it was an absolute pleasure to laugh and slapstick through the conversation with him as I learned about how it all came to be. He gives a few fun reveals in this episode about things to come, as well! Thank you for listening and for your continued support!  If you are enjoying the Couch Riffs Podcast and/or the video series please consider becoming a monthly pledge supporter for as little as .99/month. 03/08/2020 Duration: 01h51min

Our guest this episode is Ben Weinman, founding member and leader of the incredible but defunct band The Dillinger Escape Plan. As of late he has been managing artists, raising a family, and managing a farm of rescue animals in rural New Jersey. A TON of energy goes in to maintaining this rescue and I would recommend checking out a little about that HERE. You can support the efforts of this rescue, as well. I love this conversation and we covered a lot of things parallel to lives in music. Our guest for this episode is the multi-instrumentalist member of The Decemberists, Chris Funk. Chris knows his way around a studio and has recorded and produced albums by Red Fang, The Builders and The Butchers, and Langhorne Slim and also puts his dobro talents to good use in Black Prairie, an eclectic and dreamy band with a blend of bluegrass, klezmer, and soundtrack-oriented vibes. I had a great time catching up with Chris and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.  If you're feeling generous, please consider supporting the podcast with a pledge of as little as .99/month at anchor.fm/couch-riffs. Our guest on this episode is Barrett Jones, owner and operator of Laundry Room Studio. Barrett has been involved in some of the most important recordings you've heard! AND, he's got a really interesting history going all the way back to DC in his teens, recording bands out of his parents' home and later group houses where he lived. From the very word go he was recording some noteworthy and historically significant bands and he continues to do that as well as produce a video series, Landry Room Live, which broadcasts live and also posts to his YouTube channel post-performance. • Ep. 95 : Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge/Slash & The Conspirators/Mayfield 4)

    20/07/2020 Duration: 02h20min

Our guest this episode is the incredibly multi-talented Myles Kennedy (Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, Alter Bridge, The Mayfield 4). This is one of the sweetest, most genuine folks you'll meet and he has a true passion for music that is clear and evident in this conversation. It has been a pleasure for me to get to know him a little over the years but this conversation was certainly the longest that I've had with him and the most deep and varied. • Ep. 94 : Scott Marceau (AR of Yamaha Guitars & Line 6)

    15/07/2020 Duration: 02h25min

This episode we are pleased to be speaking with Scott Marceau of Yamaha. I've had a fairly long relationship with Yamaha and getting to know Scott has been a genuine pleasure. This week I'd have been seeing him in Nashville at Summer NAMM if it weren't for the pandemic conditions and so we instead enjoy this lengthy conversation about what ever we feel like. I hope you enjoy! If you are enjoying Couch Riffs please consider leaving a 5-star rating and review and becoming a monthly pledge supporter at anchor.fm/couch-riffs. • Ep. 93 : Don Gunn (Drummer/Studio Engineer/Producer/Mixer)

    13/07/2020 Duration: 02h12min

I was very happy to have Don Gunn on the podcast this episode. Don is responsible for a lot of great sounding recordings and mixes (some that we've worked on together, even) including some Couch Riffs performance videos as of late. He's also one of the most entertaining folks to work with in a studio environment and is always down for a laugh. Did I mention he is a great drummer? It shouldn't come as a surprise. Many of my favorite studio folks are drummers. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I enjoyed having it! It takes us a little while to get up to speed but there are some pretty golden nuggets sprinkled all throughout!  If you're enjoying the Couch Riffs podcast and/or video series please consider becoming a pledge supporter for as little as .99/month at the link below OR at anchor.fm/couch-riffs (or just search for Couch Riffs on the site). • Ep. 92 : William DuVall of Alice In Chains

    09/07/2020 Duration: 01h55min

This episode features my guest William DuVall, most famously known as the lead singer of Alice in Chains but who had a long musical career leading up to that eventual position. We cover a ton of William's punk roots very candidly in this episode and I had an absolute Bl'ast (heh, heh) hearing him tell some great stories. There is a tiny bit of audio drop in this episode when William leaves home and gets in his car but it passes pretty quickly and painlessly. Thanks as always for listening and for your continued support!  If you enjoy the Couch Riffs Podcast and/or its companion video series please consider becoming a monthly pledge supporter at anchor.fm/couch-riffs.
