Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh celebrates its 120th year with 'Greinneyderyn ny Gaelgey jeh'n 20oo Cheead Blein', influential Manx-speakers of the 20th century, at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13th March in St John's Methodist Church Hall. That same evening, Films In Peel have a showing at the Centenary Centre in Peel. We hear of the season's offerings through to June. Yn Chruinnaght has published information on its line-up for its Celtic Gathering 2019 in July. Secretary of Yn Chruinnaght, Chloe Woolley, tells us about that, and she's joined by David Kilgallon with news of an exciting Breton-Manx project.

International events are brought to the shores of the Isle of Man, with the battle between the British Royal Navy Commander John Elliott and Captain Francois Thurot of the French Royale on 28th February 1760 - and regret in the Island, where Thurot was known and liked. Michael Winter tells us about his love of film and connection with Films In Peel. Congratulations to Holly McRae on becoming the Manx Youth Bard. Bridge Carter tells us a little of the duties associated with that, and Manx Bard Annie Kissack reads her poem, 'Tap, Tap, Tap'.

We're visiting pantoland again with the Marown Youth and Community Players' production of 'Rapunzel'. We hear from Producer Alison Lodge and cast members Andrew Willoughby and Gill Bowers. And Joyce Crook tells us about 'The Sleeping Beauty' which is being presented by the Port St Mary Cabaret Party. The Manx Branch of the Celtic Congress has launched a project to encourage people to write a short-story in Manx of 600-1,000 words to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Sophia Morrison. Committee member Sandra Caley explains about the background to that. And we again hear recordings from 1906 made on the Edison Phonograph Sophia Morrison bought for The Manx Language Society.

Jamys O'Meara has stepped in to act as Yn Greinneyder, the Manx Language Development Officer of Culture Vannin. Dollin Mercer talks to him about his role. Entries for the Manx Music, Speech and Dance Festival - the Guild - close on Saturday 9th February. Festival Secretary, Dr Jacqueline Yates, takes us through some of the new classes and other changes this year. The second of the events to celebrate Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh 120 will be taking place in St John's Methodist Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13th February. We hear about that, and also an historic recording from 1906 of the Manx Language Society's first Secretary, William Quayle of Ballamillghyn, Captain of the Parish of Lonan.

    Manx Radio's weekly programme looking at Manx life from a different angle, exploring the historical, social, linguistic and academic issues, as well as giving a regular taste of the best of Manx music We find about - and hear - this year's Arrane son Mannin, which will go forward to represent the Island in the Pan Celtic International Song Contest at the Pan Celtic Festival in Letterkenny, County Donegal, in Easter Week. A central figure in Manx cultural life of the early twentieth century was Sophia Morrison, who died on 17th January 1917. We look at an historic recording of John Nelson, made in 1907 with the Edison Phonograph purchased by Sophia Morrison for The Manx Language Society.
