Synopsis

This episode features a Canadian pioneer in sports psychology, Penny Werthner. Penny is one of Canada’s most distinguished consultants in the field of sport psychology. She has worked with many Olympic level athletes, coaches and teams over a span of 13 summers and winter Olympic Games, from the 1988 winter Olympics in Calgary to the more recent 2016 summer Games in Rio and the 2018 Games in PyeongChang.  Penny represented Canada in the 1500m in Montreal at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Penny claimed a bronze medal in the 800m at the 1971 and 79 Pan Am Games and further won bronze in the 1500m at the 1978 Commonwealth Games.  She would have competed at the Olympic games in Russia in 1980 were it not for the unfortunate boycott.  Penny currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary which is currently ranked the #1 School of Sport Science in North America and #7 globally. Her research is in the area of life-long learning, particularly in the area of high-performance coaching
