In this special "Deep Dive," Maria Shilaos digs into several proposals from Utah's lawmakers to further restrict cell phones and other electronics in Utah schools. Several top leaders are working on legislation to keep tech out of the classroom, including a proposal to make schools phone-free all day... from "bell to bell." State Representative Doug Fiefia is working on what he calls the SAFE Act, which would push Utah's schools to return to analog-first teaching methods. It would also eliminate non-essential screen times and create rules for the use of artificial intelligence in schools. State Representative Ariel Defay is also working on legislation, a bill she's calling the Balance Act. This would remove technology for the youngest children in the school system, slowing phasing in new tech as the children age.
