Former West Catholic High School Running Back Dennis Shaw, discusses being 1 of 7 children in a one bedroom apartment. He praises his mother for taking care of them and always keeping them active in sports. After transferring to West Catholic his sophomore year of high school, he talks about the level of competition on field at all positions. Dennis talks about trying to uphold the standard, because West Catholic was known across Philadelphia for always having standout running backs. He mentions that he always had to be point because the 2nd and 3rd string players were just as good as the starter. “One mistake could cost you your spot“. He also reflects on classic rivalries verse Neumann/ Goretti and Archbishop Wood. Dennis discusses not having much guidance and support during his recruiting process. Unexpectedly, Dennis had to accept his playing career had ended in high school and he would never became an college athlete.
