In 1987, I moved from my parents in the sleepy Cotswold Hills into a rented three-bedroom house in the sprawling metropolis of Cheltenham Spa. I wasn't earning much money but I found enough for beer, records, cigarettes, gigs, sausage & chips and watching the non-league football of Cheltenham Town.
