Toilet Paper Frenzy

Synopsis

The History Podcast contains two different types of podcasts. One looks at recent history through the eyes of ‘average’ people who actually lived through these events, or who have some deep interest in them, rather than through the eyes of professional historians. This gives us a deepen sense of what individual people thought or felt about what was happening around them. The other history podcast is mainly produced by students, looking at things of significance or interest in the history of their society. In this podcast, we look back at an unusual moment in Japan during the oil shock of 1973 when toilet paper began to disappear from supermarket shelves.
