Hello and welcome to the Create More Podcast presented by Ben Stuart. A fortnightly podcast that will take a look behind the scenes of some of London's creative industries. - Over 1 hour each Podcast allows Ben Stuart to interview one of these 'creative entrepreneurs' who have started their own practice or studio and can range from Architects, to Artist, designers, animators, musicians and anyone in-between-Ben is an architect from Make in London who is passionate about all areas of the creative design industry and loves behind the scenes documentaries and aims with this podcast to fuse the two in a light hearted informal chat. Many (including me) believe that BIM (building information modeling) is the future. Fred does to, and this podcast focuses on what BIM is and why it is helpful. Fred is co-founder of the company www.theb1m.com, who's aim is to shift the focus from BIM being used by a small group of experts to mass uptake that will greatly improve the architecture, engineering and construction industries. They want to do this by by reaching out and engaging people in a way that inspires them rather than expecting them to download and read boring documents which is why they focus on youtube distributed media. He is a really interesting and passionate guy and its great to see the younger generation of the construction industry getting excited and behind BIM. We talk all about this and more. Open House was started in 1992 as a small, not-for-profit organisation to promote public awareness and appreciation of the capital's building design and architecture. The intention was to open up London's splendid buildings to the general public who don't otherwise have access. Victoria came over to our tiny recording studio at Make's studio and her and Ben talk all about how Open-City started and how her career has evolved and how, Open-House as it was originally called, expanded over the years. She is currently stepping down as CEO of open-city to concentrate on Open-City world wide with over 100 cities are aiming to become part of the this wider family.     Hello and welcome to Episode 9 of the Create More podcast. This fortnight Ben went over to the Studio Octopi studio in South London to talk one half of the founding directors Chris Romer-Lee. Studio Octopi are a really interesting architectural design studio established in 2003 who grew through a series of small residential projects and are now doing some fantastic projects in many different sectors, such as the Bradford college Greek Theatre, and also the Delfina Foundation Project. They have also made a name for themselves with the Thames Baths project, which is the idea of a floating swimming pool in the Thames. This design is part of growing series of projects done with a successful Kickstarter campaign. The project has already smashed its target of £125,000 to take it to planning and they are aiming to complete (if all goes to plan) in 2017. Su trained in Architecture at the University of Liverpool and worked in affordable housing before becoming an academic and teacher of architecture students. She then managed three successful architects practices in London and the South East; culminating in five years with Barefoot & Gilles. Since then she has developed a reputation as the go-to person for people who want to work with architects online. Su now spends her time consulting on social media strategy, talking to product manufacturers about how to sell to architects, and teaching anyone who wants to know how to use Linkedin, Twitter and Blogging to support their clients and get more business. Ken founded Make in 2003 with only 4 people and it has rapidly expanded over the last 10+ years to over 150 staff in offices, all over the world, including London, Hong Kong and Beijing. Make are known for creative, sustainable architecture with buildings such as The Cube in Birmingham, St Pauls information Kiosk and 5 Broadgate to name a few. Prior to Make Ken worked his way up through the ranks of Fosters and was a central figure on projects such as The Gherkin, Wembley Stadium, HSBC and the Millennium Bridge.
