  • Episode #9 - Goldie LIVE

    18/07/2017 Duration: 01h06min

Hey y’all, so here it is... My man Goldie joined me for a live podcast in London last week and when you’ve had a career as long and varied as this guy you’ve got stories for days… G just dropped his brand new album The Journey Man – which is amazing by the way, if you haven’t already you need to get that one in your collection. And in this pod he goes right back to the start, talking about when he was doing graffiti in Wolverhampton, his first trip to New York and his first experience painting a train… We talk about parties we went to at Nellee Hooper’s house and Goldie takes us right through his musical career, including the catharsis he experienced creating Mother, upto the present day, which he considers to be his best work yet. Now he’s an avid hot yoga practitioner and lives in an idyllic home he built with his wife in Thailand. He even does a demonstration of the posture he finds most difficult – Savasana – or dead man’s pose he told me it’s called! That was great piece of podcasting right there… Goldie

  • BONUS POD - David Hepworth

    06/07/2017 Duration: 56min

Check out this conversation between myself and acclaimed music journalist David Hepworth about the rise and fall of the rockstars. This guy has interviewed as many rockstars as I've hung out with backstage so we get deep into that rockstar psyche. Who they are, what makes one, and why we don't make 'em any more. And while you're at it, check out the dude's new book, Uncommon People, out now.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode #8 - DJ Die

    04/07/2017 Duration: 53min

Yo whassup! So we took a short hiatus there while everyone (including myself) in the music biz got down at Glastonbury... But now we're back and it's worth the wait! DJ Die is my guest on the pod today - a legendary Bristol musician from the jungle drum n bass school of beats. One of the original members of that 1997 Mercury Music Prize winning outfit Reprazent with Roni Size, and now an internationally renowned DJ and producer in his own right and owner of the Gutterfunk Records label. How'dya like that! On this episode we get to talking about the similarities between New York and Bristol both being port cities with their meltin pot cultures and how that affects you as a person and as a musician. We also drop names like crazy, talkin about when we toured the world at the same time in the 90's and heroes we got to meet. Die also shares his wildly varied muscial influences growing up and we have a very pop interlude. As always, plenty of that HOTR real shiz goin down... Die's cat busts in, you can hear his lau

  • Episode #7 - DJ Uncle Mike

    20/06/2017 Duration: 01h24min

This week I have the honour of speaking with one of the most important people in rock n roll history, and one of my best friends... It's Uncle Mike! These days he's a legendary DJ on the New York scene, still rockin bods in the finest spots in the city - when he's not rockin a union suit in a Spaghetti Western remake that is - but back in the day, this guy was at the top of his game at Epic and EMI Records. He signed the Fun Lovin' Criminals and worked with some of the biggest rock, metal and alternative acts around. Check this pod for the full story of how the FLC got signed and went from schleppin ice and answering phones at the Limelight club to playing to 90,000 on tour with U2. We talk about the magical days of Bungalow 8 when Mike and I both had a drink on the menu named after us, the time Puffy "borrowed" a lighter from Mike, how we came to meet Joe Strummer in our underwear and what Sharon Osborne is really like... There is truly too much to even summarise, so the best thing to do is kick back...

  • Episode #6 - Dana Brunetti

    13/06/2017 Duration: 48min

It’s insanely dope to get with this guy… The one and only Dana Brunetti. If you don’t know his name yet, you sure as hell know the shows and movies that he’s brought to life… He’s the Oscar and Emmy nominated producer behind critically acclaimed movies like The Social Network and Captain Philips, as well as straight up blockbusters like the Fifty Shades franchise. Oh, and a little show you mighta heard of called House of Cards! He was also a studio head for a while and business partner to Kevin Spacey, and a vet too. He spent some time in the Coastguard way back. But of course the thing that really launched his career was a silent movie that he made back in film school, starring yours truly, rollin a doobie. So naturally he was destined for big things! Yeah Dana and I go way back and on this episode we get to talkin about the troubles we’ve had with being straight talkin New York dudes on social media. How being a vet changes your perspective on shit...  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out

  • Episode #5 - King

    06/06/2017 Duration: 01h26min

He's my brother from another mother, one of my best friends, a musician and a band mate in The Tangiers Blues Band (check them out, yo) and King of New York's nightlife - hence the name. A lot of you have been requesting this one and I don't think you'l be disappointed. We tell tales of old New York (like late 80's, early 90's old), name drop all the hotspots and a few rockstars too. Fast makes a guest appearance via text and a my little boy shuts the whole thing down when he decides it's time to come chat with Uncle King.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode #4 - Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman

    30/05/2017 Duration: 49min

If you're into folk music this week's pod is gonna be pretty special for you, and if folk's not your thing, I highly recommend you check out my guests and friends Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman. They're internationally acclaimed folk musicians who've got over 40 years in the music biz between them, so naturally we talk about music - Cara has some great stories about her youth growing up in Northern Ireland where she learned her craft. We also get into it on technology, working together with your other half, why Cara and Sam are still selling CDs like they never went out of fashion and navigating the modern world as parents. And there are a couple of Huey: Off The Record "real moments" (TM pending) goin off too... Housekeeping bustin in and a funny little soundcheck at the start... Check it out...  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode #3 - Scroobius Pip

    23/05/2017 Duration: 54min

Aight, if you're a podcast fan this guy really needs no introduction but as he's such a damn gentleman I'm gonna give him one anyway. My guest this week is a rapper, musician, label boss, author, creator of badass merch and dope homegrown music videos. He's an actor too with a growing resume of cool parts and oh yeah, he's the modern day UK podfather with a long running hit show and a podcasting network, no less! It is of course, the one and only, Scroobius Pip. I greatly enjoyed my time talking with Pip and we go everywhere, from music, to social media, to mental health and he shares something that really touched my heart too. Enjoy. And yo, we got a cool two part thing going on here, check out my pod with Pip over on The Distraction Pieces podcast too, to get the downlow from that end.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode #1 - Ricky Gervais

    08/05/2017 Duration: 01h17min

Whaddup y'all, welcome to the first episode of Huey: Off The Record. I'm honoured to be joined for my very first podcast conversation by the original podfather himself, multi award winning comedian, actor, writer, producer and director, Ricky Gervais. I spoke with Ricky right at the start of his Humanity stand up tour... And I didn't record a single word of it. But thankfully Ricky's a generous guy so he made the time to shoot the sh*t with me again, and we got into it all... Money, fame, religion, social media, weird science and everything in between. We went deep and had some laughs and as always, kept it real. Tune in and enjoy... Peace!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
