Synopsis

King Me is the unofficial Stephen King movie podcast and the official podcast of Kinging Me. Comedians Rob Avon and Dan Gagliardi are on a quest to try to make sense of every entry in the vast and diverse world of Stephen King movie adaptations. They're watching everything from The Shining to Dreamcatcher, from The Shawshank Redemption to The Lawnmower Man 2, to try to get a beat on Stephen King's work and its pop culture legacy.

Episodes

  • 96 - Mr. Mercedes (2017) Part 1

    24/06/2022 Duration: 01h31min

Join us as we discuss Mr. Mercedes, and attempt to put our lives back together in the aftermath of The Mist (2017). We’re only five episodes in, but the front half of this…uh…AT&T Original Series…has us feeling pretty good. We’ve got actual characters, a coherent plot, and high quality needle drops. • Dante Speak - 2 - Gremlins (1984) Preview

    17/06/2022 Duration: 08min

GRAMLINS?! The second episode of our Joe Dante miniseries covers an absolute masterpiece in the canon of both of our favorite genres: kids’ horror comedy and live action cartoon genre. This ep is all about heaping praise on a perfect movie, and a bit of Old-Man-Yells-At-Cloud lamentation about the current state of the studio comedy feature film. More important than anything we have to say about the movie, though, is the introduction of our new segment: Grandpa Go To Bathroom Watch. Get the full ep at www.patreon.com/kingmepod

  • 95 - The Dark Tower (2017)

    10/06/2022 Duration: 01h41min

We…DO talk about the book? Clearly we’ve forgotten the faces of our fathers. Given the stature of the Dark Tower series within Stephen King’s body of work (and given that these are some of the only books Dan’s ever read), we had no choice but to break the King Me Promise and discuss the source material for this one. If it helps at all, Dan seems to only barely remember them. There’s also plenty of discussion of The Dark Tower (2017) in its own right - and buddy, when I tell you we go full Jay Sherman on its ass… Enjoying the show? • Dante Speak - 1 - Piranha (1978) Preview

    03/06/2022 Duration: 01min

https://www.patreon.com/kingmepod This is easily the most exciting miniseries (for us, at least) since Wall to Wall Carpenter: a review of four selections by the inimitable Joe Dante. We’re starting with Dante’s first-ish feature from 1978, PIRANHA. Despite (or, perhaps, THANKS TO??) the constraints of the Roger Corman school of filmmaking, PIRANHA features many signature Joe Dante elements: swarm of nasty little guys, Looney Tunes-esque climactic setpieces, and Dick Miller. Also coming up in this run will be Gremlins, The ‘Burbs, and Small Soldiers.

  • 94 - The Mist (2017) Part 2

    27/05/2022 Duration: 01h48min

Thus concludes our analysis of a confused and confusing recapitulation of a legitimately very good movie. This series will not be…mist. Lots of low points, but at least it escalates in some weird ways. And, if nothing else, it’s very cool to see the Fisher King from The Fisher King still getting work. Also, as promised, the Little Steven hologram from the Newark Airport: https://twitter.com/njhalloffame/status/1103777514307096576 If you need more King Me/My Idiot Cohost, you can support us with $5 a month on Patreon and receive a biweekly bonus episode: www.patreon.com/kingmepod Follow us on Facebook and Twitter @kingmepod, and on Instagram @king.me.pod

  • 93 - The Mist (2017) Part 1

    13/05/2022 Duration: 01h38min

Another from the vault. Our research team (Dan in a Sherlock Holmes hat) dates this one to around December 2021, so just know that when we say "we're back" we don't yet know we're lying. You know what else is back? That old so-and-so, the mist. And this time, the mist is bugs. And this time, we don't really like it (at least so far): they took a nice, straight-ahead Lovecraftian allegory and Lost-ified it beyond all meaning. Stray note: our editing team (Dan in a French beret) noticed that Rob says "wartch" around the 14-minute mark, so enjoy that. If you haven't already, how about you channel the love you have for your boys Dan and Rob into a five-star rating and review on the podcast platform of your choosing? • 92 - Cell (2016) w/ Gavin Fischer

    30/04/2022 Duration: 01h55min

From the Fisher King to the king, Fischer. Musician and honest-to-god brother of Rob, Gavin Fischer, joins us to unpack the 2016 techno-zombie turd CELL, starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. Great ep for fans of people talking over each other on purpose. Please enjoy the first of our time capsule episodes, which were recorded sporadically between December 2019 and April 2022 - a span of months which history will remember as “the Dark Times” because of the lack of King Me content and for NO OTHER REASON. If you haven't already, how about you channel the love you have for your boys Dan and Rob into a five-star rating and review on the podcast platform of your choosing? • THE FISHER KING

    22/04/2022 Duration: 48min

    We're back baby

  • 91 - 11.22.63 (2016) Part 2

    23/01/2020 Duration: 01h20min

Sorry for the delay, ancient goblins. Unfortunately, the last four episodes of 11.22.63 were each 16 hours long. This show only got odder as it went on - apparently, had JFK not died, he would have founded nationwide internment camps?? - but we were surprised to find the ending offered some sincere catharsis for Jake and Sadie, allowing Jake to return to the present completely over his divorce. • King Me - 90 - 11.22.63 (2016) PART 1

    21/11/2019 Duration: 01h36min

What if you could into a diner closet and be transported back in time to release an episode on schedule? Would you? Or would you try to stop the JFK assassination and make some friends along the way? Both of those are equally important! This week on the show we're diving into one of the most boomery boomer fantasies ever. James Franco gets into some wacky adventures as he tries to change history in 11/22/63. • BONUS SHOW: Total Recall (Preview)

    09/11/2019 Duration: 03min

The absolute goddamn king of our hearts, Paul Verhoeven, is back in the fray. We're digging in on Total Recall--a less biting satire than Robocop or Starship Troopers, but equally entertaining and stealthily provocative. Also, did you hear that Dan fucked a pig? • 89 - Big Driver (2014) w/ Mark Henely

    06/11/2019 Duration: 01h37min

Our first LIFETIME movie! This week we're joined by the very funny MARK HENELY to discuss 2014's BIG DRIVER. Despite the movies topic this was a fun episode that gets very silly. WARNING, there is talk about sexual assault so if you don't feel like hear three white guys talk about that, we get it. Want more King Me content, you sicko? • 88 - Mercy (2014)

    30/10/2019 Duration: 01h24min

This week we're talking about a real dud. We're talking MERCY from 2014. It's an insanely accurate title to a movie that was painful to get through. Want more King Me content, you sicko? 23/10/2019 Duration: 01h43min

This week on the show we're talking A GOOD MARRIAGE. Joining us this week to talk about this movie are DANA BRERETON & PAIGE BAKER, our wives. This was so much fun for us and I think our wives tolerated it too! Want more King Me content, you sicko? Visit our Patreon to get a free episode every week, you sicko! • 86 - Carrie (2013) w/ Melissa Jouben

    16/10/2019 Duration: 02h01min

This week we're joined by MELISSA JOUBEN to discussed the third (we must include the porn parody) remake of the classic horror film CARRIE. Starring the miscast Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie White, the weirdest girl in school. You know, the outcast, picked on for being awkward and no guy would ever even think of asking out because she's so repellent. Chloe Grace Moretz. It's like She's All That with a higher body count. • 85 - Bag of Bones (2011)

    09/10/2019 Duration: 01h47min

We've heard of a lot of things, but the 2011 A&E miniseries BAG OF BONES? That we had not heard of! BAG OF BONES stars Pierce Brosnan as Mike Noonan, a novelist who's very busy mourning the death of his wife and becoming the legal guardian of a child he met earlier today. Over the course of the movie, and with the help of his dead wife's spirit, Mike learns important lessons about jazz and desecrating corpses. BAG OF BONES is lousy with King Tropes, and it takes on some very sensitive topics with a degree of nuance usually reserved for Pierce Brosnan's acting. To make matters worse, it's a Mick Garris joint, so it also serves as a cruel reminder of the time Dan pulled his hair. Want more King Me content, you sicko? • 84 - Children of the Corn Genesis (2011) w/ JC Hendricks

    02/10/2019 Duration: 01h37min

This week we're joined by friend of the show and newly inducted CORN KID, JC HENDRICKS, to discuss a prequel to the sprawling CHILDREN OF THE CORN franchise takes us back to where it all started: 20 miles outside of Gatlin, briefly, and then southeastern California. (Sorry, but it's canon now.) With total disregard for its namesake, CHILDREN OF THE CORN: GENESIS joins films like THE MANGLER REBORN and SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK...FOR MORE in the pantheon of movies that were retrofitted into existing franchises for marketing purposes. But even a bastard MANGLER sequel has more dignity than this straight-to-DVD joint, which seems to be comprised of half original footage and half sequences from other projects Dimension owned the rights to.
