19/01/2022 Duration: 18minWelcome back to The Goss! In today's episode, we talk about Australia's most dangerous horse racing club! Yes, the Wallabadah Jockey Club has closed down after 169 years of operation. Race organizers have concluded that its race track no longer meets NSW's horse racing standards. This is because of the race track's terrain - it has up hills and down hills, with a nine-metre decline towards the home stretch. A perfect recipe for horse racing disasters, isn't it? Join us as we talk about the rich history of Australian horse racing and how we think it has become so commercialised. Is there anything you want to ask me? AE 1091 - Australian English vs British English | Reaction
13/01/2022 Duration: 27minHere's my take on the REAL difference between Australian English versus British English! Meet vloggers @ Joel and Lia who are British but live in Australia! In today's episode, I breakdown the differences in pronunciation between Australian English and British English. For example, there is a difference when saying the R sound if it's at the end of a sentence versus saying the R sound before a vowel sound. One thing that Joel and Lia says here is that Australian English pronunciation somehow comes between British English and American English. I'm very skeptic of that one. What do you think? AE 1070 - The Goss: Dad Publishes his Book 'Becoming Australian'
15/12/2021 Duration: 34minHow's the week going so far, guys? We're excited here on The Goss today as my dad Ian Smissen announces one of his life achievements -- publishing his book 'Becoming Australian'! This book idea of his started in early 2020. He'd been working on it bit by bit and when we hit lockdown, he decided to give it a full go. And voila, the Smissen Family History! It's a large collection of photographs of the family, and important places, and of course, our family tree. Yeah, it won't be up for sale for the public -- it's got stories there that Dad would rather keep within its limited readers. And he says it's been tedious doing the editing work, and fun trying to trace the family ties - how we 'became Australian'. Would you try to trace your family tree, too? Let me know in the comments below! ** Want to wear the kookaburra shirt?
