This week on RED-C Roundup our host, Pam Marvin, interviews Deacon Dave Mayes from St. Thomas Aquinas in College Station.  Pam and Deacon Dave spoke about the inspiration behind and the building up of his new Camino de la Paz Retreat Center just north of Bryan, TX.  Deacon Dave shared some of his early life and vocation stories, both in marrying the love of his life, Vancy, and becoming a deacon in 2007.  He also shared the inspiration he received while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain after Vancy's death.  God has led Deacon Dave to now open a retreat center on his property, and the stories of triumphs and near disasters along the way were also shared during this inspirational episode of RED-C Roundup!

This week on RED-C Roundup our host, Dr. Thaddeus Romansky, interviews Dr. Richard DeClue, about the Vatican II major constitutions, Dei Verbum and Lumen Gentium.  Dr. DeClue is the Cardinal Henri de Lubac Fellow in Theology at the Word on Fire Institute. He specializes in systematic theology with a particular interest and expertise in the thought of Joseph Ratzinger / Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.  Drs. Romansky and DeClue spoke first about who Cardinal Henri de Lubac was and his own involvement in the Vatican II Council formation, as well and his relationship to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. The spent the remainder of the episode discussing details of Dei Verbum and Lumen Gentium and their meaning and implications for the Church today.

This week on RED-C Roundup our host, Deacon Mike Beauvais, interviews artist and speaker, Ali Hoffman, about the role of beauty in spreading the good news of our Catholic Faith.  Deacon Mike and Ali first spoke about the beauty of scripture and how the Bible originally was not only beautiful for the words but also for handwritten calligraphy and the artwork. Both also discussed the nature of beauty and what it does for the human soul, as well as how it points to higher and divine things, as well as helping us to worship the one true God.  The discussion also covered how beauty in our world impacts their personal faith lives. So, when considering the many ways in which you might share your time, talents, and treasure with the people of God, always round up!

Host Pam Marvin visited with Dr. Stephen Braden about his love for and experience with medical mission work.  Stephen Braden, M.D. is a family physician in Bryan, Texas.  A husband, father, and grandfather, he is active in his home parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and writes from the perspective of his own experiences and encounters with the voice of the Spirit.  Pam and Dr. Braden covered his recently published book, The Noise and the Silence: A Texas Doctor Learns to Hear God.  Blessed to be a part of over 40 medical missions to Latin America, Jamaica, and Hait, Dr. Braden has felt the amazing presence of the Holy Spirit on numerous occasions. Inspiration, encouragement, and teaching have come in moments of trial and challenge as well as in unexpected graces and consolations. Sharing our stories can further unite us as the Body of Christ. Host Judy Comeaux visited with Fr. James Misko, Vicar General for the Diocese of Austin.  Their discussion centered around the role of Vicar General, Fr. James' personal vocation story, and the three Pillars of Lent.  This was a fascinating and endearing discussion with a tremendous man of God that you certainly do not want to miss!

Host Pam Marvin visited with Fr. Paul-Michael Piega, Pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hutto, Texas about liturgical norms of our Catholic Faith.  This episode began by discussing the need for catechesis for the family and the laity, in general.  In this light, this show then focused on multiple norms within the liturgy of the Holy Mass for both the clergy and the laity, and the meanings and reasoning behind each norm discussed.  And as always, when choosing between the values of Heaven and the values of Earth, always Roundup!

Host Deacon Mike Beauvais visits with Deacon Ralph Poyo of New Evangelization Ministries on this episode of RED-C Roundup. Deacon Poyo first shared his personal faith background and his vocation story from his Catholic upbringing, to his years in youth ministry, to his leap of faith into the diaconate then into his current work with New Evangelization Ministries. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the mission of New Evangelization Ministries is to build stronger Catholic parishes that will lead hearts to Christ. Deacon Ralph leads parish missions all around the country, inviting whole communities to go deeper in their lives of Faith and to evangelize the world, starting at each person’s local level.  And remember, when considering the many ways in which you might share your time, talents, and treasures with the people of God... always Roundup!

Host Thaddeus Romansky met with Adam Brill, Liturgical Director at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish in College Station, TX, to talk about the Vatican II major document, Sacrosanctum Concilium.  Both discussed what the document states, as well as does not state.  The historical context of the document was also shared in this episode.

Host Judy Comeaux visits with Monica Mize about the Sacrament of Eucharist.  Their discussion started by discussing exactly what the Sacrament of the Eucharist is - the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  They shared how being able to receive this Sacrament impacts them personally as well as how it impacts our Church and world. They also gave much information about the practices and procedures of the confection, reception, and reverence of the Eucharist. Host Pam Marvin visits with Fr. Brien Eilers, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, TX, about all the great things God has done for him and his family. Their discussion started about Fr. Brien’s family background and his vocation story. They also spoke about his assignments through the years as a priest and how each have led to him being who he is today. The last part of their conversation branched into his mission at his current assignment, St. Joseph’s. They spoke about the ways their parish is trying to evangelize both those in their pews as well as those in the community who know little or none of the Catholic Faith. This is a conversation that is applicable to all Catholic Churches, communities, and families to help them fulfill the purpose that God has for them in our world! On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, host Dr. Thaddeus Romansky spoke with Catholic Answers apologist Joe Heschmeyer about the inspiration for his new book, The Early Church Was the Catholic Church, and about the abundance of evidence available to demonstrate that claim. Whether one looks at the sacraments, worship, church structure, or the canon of Scripture, there is very strong evidence that the early Church faithfully handed on the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles from the very beginning. And the church that did that, bringing forward those beliefs and practices in time, was the church of the Fathers and the church of Sts. Peter and Paul. That church is the Catholic Church. On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, host Dcn. Mike Beauvais welcomed Robert Mixa, the Word on Fire Institute's St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Fellow of Catholic Education. Robert talked with Dcn. Mike about the movements in the Church and modern life that gave rise to the Second Vatican Council, such as the liturgical movement and ressourcement, as well as modernism. They also had some engaging discussions about the proper way to interpret the four constitutions and use them to understand some of the other documents produced by the council. On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, host Judy Comeaux invited RED-C Director of Outreach and Evangelization Robin Waters on to the show for the first installment of her year-long focus on the sacraments. Robin will be ordained to the permanent diaconate in March and baptism is a sacrament he will be called on frequently to perform. He and Judy had a lively discussion about all aspects of this first sacrament of initiation. They especially honed in on why Our Lord instituted the sacrament by allowing John to baptize Him in the Jordan River. Host Gene Wilhelm visits with Peter Herbeck, Director of Renewal Ministries and co-host of multiple Catholic television and radio shows, about the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement. They also talk about what the relationship is between the Charismatic Renewal and the Catholic Church, and the historical account of how the movement was founded. On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, host Dcn. Mike Beauvais and RED-C Director of Education and Development, Dr. Thaddeus Romansky, took a dive into the Second Vatican Council by first assessing the historical events and culture in the world that preceded the council. up to the formulation of the Vatican II documents during this episode of RED-C Roundup. They both discussed what Vatican II was and what it actually says, in contrast with how it has been interpreted and implemented in the decades that have followed. In particular, they gave brief overviews of the constitutions Gaudium et Spes, Lumen Gentium, Dei Verbum, and Sacrosanctum Concilium. They shared the basic outline of their conversion to Catholicism last year after several years of discernment and dialogue. They are now faithful listeners to RED-C Catholic Radio in Waco and our programming played a significant role in the story. Host Gene Wilhelm visits with Anthony DeStefano about his two new books for children (ages 3 to 103 as the author quips) and their families, Joseph’s Donkey and The Beggar and the Bluebird.  Both Gene and Anthony discuss how the deeper theme in the books is about death and resurrection, and the great things that come in life through the many deaths and resurrections that we all experience.  The books at their core are about finding Jesus, which can be difficult to do in our busy lives and during the Advent season.  This engaging conversation about the books and the personal life of their author is one for all ages, as are the books of author, Anthony DeStefano. 

Deacon Mike Beauvais interviews Elizabeth Lev about her book, The Silent Knight A History of St. Joseph as Depicted in Art.  Deacon Mike asks his favorite questions about the art in her book that intrigues him most, but he also gives a general review in his discussion with Elizabeth.  The Silent Knight explores and chronicles the remarkable rise of Joseph’s iconography through masterpieces by some of history’s greatest artists. Each chapter of this book reveals a different facet of Joseph, contextualized in the history, spirituality, or controversy of the age, and demonstrates how artists applied their creative talents to communicate Joseph’s intercessory power to their audiences. This fascinating interview is a fitting one for the final week of The Year of St. Joseph!

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, host Judy Comeaux spoke with John Pisciotta, founder of Pro-Life Waco (PLW). He invited listeners to attend their Rise Up Waco event on Saturday, November 27 from 8-10 AM; to join PLW every fourth Saturday for prayer and witness in front of Planned Parenthood; and to participate in 40 Days for Life's "mini-40 Days" campaign on November 30 and December to pray in advance of oral arguments in the Dobbs case at the United States Supreme Court.
