  • One Song, Pressing On RA

    28/11/2020 Duration: 17min

Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained. 1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control,b lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. Ephesians 2:1

  • Proverbs 29:15-19 RA Lawlessness & Casting Off Restraint

    06/11/2020 Duration: 10min

Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. 16 When the wicked increase, transgression increases, but the righteous will look upon their downfall. 17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart. 18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint,c but blessed is he who keeps the law. 19 By mere words a servant is not disciplined, for though he understands, he will not respond. Today’s verses address reproof and the lack thereof in our children as well as society. Here he says how for the child… a whipping accompanied with a good talking is so they will gain wisdom but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother… Of course this “hands off and no reproof” way of child rearing is quite common in our culture today. So many people say “well I don’t want to influence my children about God or right or wrong or truth but let them make up their own mind.” Look, the devil and the world will be su

  • Proverbs 17 Don't Be A Dolt #3 BF

    04/11/2020 Duration: 05min

This is part three of our series of devotions from Proverbs 17 and today we are looking at the always controversial subject of money. Is it okay for followers of Christ to be rich? Is it okay to have nice things? Is it okay to want to work hard and make more money? These are all questions I have personally wrestled with in my journey with Christ and thankfully, Proverbs 17 provides us with some clear advice regarding our pocket books. In this devotional, I will share five quick observations with you about money and its role in our obedience to God from Proverbs 17.#1 - Hard work is nothing to be ashamed of.A prudent servant will rule over a disgraceful son and share an inheritance among brothers. -Proverbs 17:2 (CSB)Here we see that the prudent servant will share in the inheritance before the disgraced son. This is one of many verses throughout the Proverbs and scriptures as a whole that encourages us to be people who work. There is no place for retirement (as most Americans would define it) in the Biblical w

  • Proverbs 17 Don't Be A Dolt #2 BF

    04/11/2020 Duration: 07min

This is the second in our series of devotions from the 17th chapter of Proverbs. I have titled this devotion, “Don’t be a dolt... people are your legacy” and as with the first devotion this comes from a collection of various verses in the chapter.Oh, how we must pity fools or as we are calling them for this series “dolts” based upon a reading of verse 21 in the message paraphrase. In these selected verses today we see perhaps the most relevant of all the devotions in this short series. We rarely think of legacy. This is probably due to the fact that to think of one's legacy is to think of one's death. It seems that for most, legacy or the mark that will be left behind after us isn’t thought of until it's too late. Legacy is not something that is built overnight - legacy comes from a lifetime of action. By the time we are faced with the question, “What will people remember of me when I'm gone?” it is usually too late to change that perception. You maybe thinking this doesn’t really matter does it? But, I would

  • Proverbs 29:12-14 RA The Lord Gives Light

    04/11/2020 Duration: 12min

Proverbs 29:12 If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. 13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the Lord gives light to the eyes of both. 14 If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever. Verse 12 makes sense right? A wicked ruler does not want some righteous person looking over his shoulder and reporting his misdeeds. Proverbs 29:13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the Lord gives light to the eyes of both. This makes me think of how we all originate from God… He is the one who gives our eyes the ability to take in light and discern images and truths in the wondrous beautiful world around us. But even more so, it is God who opens our spiritual eyes to see Jesus the Messiah as beautiful… as good news… as the greatest treasure in the Universe. Proverbs 29:14 If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever. Ok, so first Solomon spoke about a wicked king and wicked officials and now in this verse he s

  • Proverbs 29:5-11 RA Heart-line Time-line

    20/10/2020 Duration: 11min

Proverbs 29:5 A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. 6 An evil man is ensnared in his transgression, but a righteous man sings and rejoices. 7 A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge. 8 Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath. 9 If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet. 10 Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless and seek the life of the upright. 11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. I believe there are a number of things we could gain from today's reading. However; there is a thread that runs through it all which is mentioned in verse 6. This I what I’d like us to consider today. ... So as always there are two paths mentioned here the path of the evil and the path of the righteous. Let’s look at a kind of time line or maybe a heart-line for the wicked person in these verses and then we’ll come back to the righteous

Bill and George (Brad Chase) Gather around little children. I want to tell you a story. Are you ready? Ok. Here we go. Once upon a time there were two little boys. Bill and George. They went to the same school and were in the same class together. They had the same interest and liked to play the same games. They traded lunches like playing cards and even spent the night at each other’s houses. For a time, you might have thought they were brothers. They were inseparable. They were 2 happy boys who enjoyed each other’s friendship. As the boys got older, some things began to change. Bill’s parents fought. A lot. And eventually they split up. George’s mom and dad ( who were already married) began dating each other! How funny is that? Bill’s brothers and sisters were n

Trust / Gerri Aylor C @ 09/28/20 Today I trusted in myself, It didn't work I see I planned the day, just what I'd do, Twas all in vain for me I've learned I cannot trust in man, God's word proved that is true And you can't trust your feelings; Hey, that is nothing new Well, I recalled what must come first In early morning light The worship of my Lord my God, Who makes my day alright The world will always trick you; It's ok, “just have your way” But if you sin, what's coming is A dark and heavy day We'll never have the energy To change our way of life Until we call on Jesus; He'll save us from the strife We often plan our lives so sure; This is what we all do But truly God, it's in Your hands, It's totally up to you! Gerri Jeremiah 10:23 I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his wa

  • Proverbs 29:1-4 RA Stiff Neck Remedy

    19/10/2020 Duration: 08min

Proverbs 29:1 He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing. 2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan. 3 He who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. 4 By justice a king builds up the land, but he who exacts gifts tears it down. Today Solomon takes a look at some commonalities between a wicked person and a wicked Nation. First let’s consider the individual that is prideful… that's what the metaphor of having a stiff neck indicates. He is set in looking at life the way he wants to in his heart and will not turn his head towards the truth. You know when you stiffen your neck or any joint in your body and you hold it tight as heavy stress is placed against it… there is a possibility of injury. And the thing is… truth will not back down. It presses down hard against every lie and every worldly promise of satisfaction. It eventually breaks every person who holds a

  • Proverbs 23:29-35 RA Sin's Symbiotic Seed

    15/10/2020 Duration: 10min

Proverbs 23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. 31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. 32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. 34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast. 35 “They struck me,” you will say, “but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I must have another drink.” Alright, remember in the last session Solomon focused on the misuse of alcohol, food and women… We talked about how what we take into our bodies and what we do and our relationships should all be for the glory of God. Today Solomon is quite pointed to what sin he is referring to and spends many words focusing specifically on the misuse of alco

Proverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 23:1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you, 2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food. 4 Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. 5 When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. 6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies, 7 for he is like one who is inwardly calculating.c “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. 8 You will vomit up the morsels that you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words. It seems to me that in these verses Solomon is counseling us against appealing to man for our welfare in life… that is trusting others instead of God. Men make promises for money and good things to those who they can use for pawns and I think Solomon is saying don’t get caught in that trap. Dont

He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. Today we look at three obvious examples of how men strive to get ahead in life. I want to focus mostly on the first thing Solomon mentions and then we will touch on the other two. Solomon tells us how we should not be one of those kind of people who put up security for loans and then make promises to pay. Is Solomon saying never take out a loan? I don’t believe so because there are times borrowing and loaning is mentioned in the Bible with no seeming implication of wrong doing by either party. However there is a heart behind some borrowing which is obsessive and self centered and can ruin a persons life. Every
