  • Episode 145: Final Battle 2010 (Sponsored by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod)

    22/12/2020 Duration: 03h32min

This week we are talking the winner of the FINAL BATTLE poll! With 31% of the vote, we travel back to 2010 for one of the most historic editions of this annual event. It was a capper to an extremely tumultuous year, one that saw the change of booker in the last quarter of the year, the slow death of the HDNet relationship, one top star leave for WWE, and another telling everyone he was done with wrestling at the end of the year.In all that, several wrestlers stepped up their game in 2010 and as a result, it created one of the most exciting year-end events in company history to that point. Steen and Generico, The Kings of Wrestling and Briscoes, the rise of Eddie Edwards, Roderick Strong and Davey Richards, they all served to make this cold NYC night a hot time in the city! It is FINAL BATTLE 2010 coming at you this week, presented by PATREON.COM/ANHONORABLEPOD, and brought to you by Joseph Feeney and the CREATIVE CONTROL NETWORK family!!!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-Final Battle 201012/18/10New York City, New York, USAGran

    15/12/2020 Duration: 03h19min

This was not the planned 2002 event for this week, but the best laid ones and all that. Instead of NIGHT OF THE BUTCHER, we jump ahead a few weeks to cover the last show of ROH’s first calendar year!Headlined be an all-star four way match, it also features one of the most enjoyable Scramble Matches of the era, another match proving Xavier was so damn good and underappreciated, and certainly the most disappointing match results of ROH’s early days.It is FINAL BATTLE 2002 is coming at you this week, presented by PATREON.COM/ANHONORABLEPOD, and brought to you by Joseph Feeney and the CREATIVE CONTROL NETWORK family!!!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-Final Battle 200212/28/02Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USAMurphy Recreation CenterDark Handicap MatchSamoa Joe vs. The Outcast Killaz (Diablo Santiago & Oman Tortuga)Dark Tag Team MatchThe Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos) vs. The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels & Donovan Morgan)Dark MatchJay Lethal vs. HomicideDark MatchAce Steel vs. Jay BriscoeSingles MatchCM Punk vs. Colt C

  • Episode 143: Survival of the Fittest 2011

    08/12/2020 Duration: 02h53min

We haven’t visited 2011 in quite some time, so we chose to visit the Montgomery County Fairgrounds (one of the last times for ROH) for an event that had become a staple of the calendar by that point (only one year missed due to a cancelled event). The tournament, whose roots extend beyond Ring of Honor, offered up a future title opportunity for the winners who have included Bryan Danielson, Roderick Strong, and Chris Hero. The 2011 edition, the first under SBG, ended up as an opportunity for much-needed infusion into the top of the card so many chances were given for people to step up to the plate. Jeff and Shane discuss this, the legacy of WGTT, the rehab of Corino, and more!SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST 2011 is coming at you this week, presented by PATREON.COM/ANHONORABLEPOD, and brought to you by The Man, JoJo Feeney and the CREATIVE CONTROL NETWORK family!!!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-Survival Of The Fittest 201111/18/11Dayton, Ohio, USAMontgomery County FairgroundsSurvival Of The Fittest 2011 Qualifying Tag Team MatchThe Br

    03/11/2020 Duration: 03h11min

Oh Canada! For the selection of our Patreon patron Scott McConnell, we are headed up into Canada for the second of the REVOLUTION events. We covered USA sometime back, and now it's time to jump into the second half of a rather underappreciated weekend in ROH history! Not only does it feature a one-time only stipulation match (which is a shame), but it is headlined by an absolute banger of a World Title match that just further solidifies how Eddie's time as the top guy was cut way too short. WGTT have one of their better ROH performances while the heel Briscoes demonstrate why they ruled, the Corino rehab tour continues, and Larry Sweeney receives a fitting tribute! It is time for REVOLUTION: CANADA, presented by PATREON.COM/ANHONORABLEPOD, and brought to you by the the legendary CREATIVE CONTROL NETWORK family of podcasts!!!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-ROH Revolution: Canada05/7/11Toronto, Ontario, CanadaTed Reeve ArenaDark Tag Team MatchThe Flatliners (Asylum & Matt Burns) vs. Alex Bird & Rip ImpactSingles MatchClaud

  • Episode 138 History of the Pure Title

    27/10/2020 Duration: 03h17min

In 2020, Ring of Honor made a surprising decision to resurrect the Pure Title; dormant since 2006 when Bryan Danielson defeated Nigel McGuinness to unify the Pure & World Titles. The unique championship carried a short lineage of names who worked for two years to build the title into a prize worth fighting over: Nigel, Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, John Walters, and Doug Williams. There is of course the weirdness of AJ Styles and the belt he carried for all of a month that was referred to as the Pure WRESTLING Title and long treated as an entirely separate entity, and scarcely acknowledged as happening, even in the title history that graced the old ROHWrestling.com website. This week on AN HONORABLE MENTION, Jeff and Shane take a dive into the history of the Pure (Wrestling) Title, actually pulling out whatever info they could via WAYBACKMACHINE about what led to its initial incarnation and its rebranding, and (gasp!) they even talk about modern ROH!Join us for THE HISTORY OF THE PURE TITLE, presented by PATREON.C

  • Episode 137 Buffalo Stampede

    20/10/2020 Duration: 03h08min

Let's take the drive to Buffalo for the third time in 2005 (third time in four months to be precise), and what would be the last time until 2010. It's the second World Title match in a row for Danielson, a continuation of the escalation of the GenNext/Embassy feud as they head towards Steel Cage Warfare in December (and in the archives), and a couple singles matches had that never happened before or ever again. It's “BUFFALO STAMPEDE” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Network brings all the greatness to your favorite podcast providers!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-Buffalo Stampede10/15/05Buffalo, NYNorth Amherst Recreation CenterDark MatchPelle Primeau vs. Smash BradleyDark MatchBobby Dempsey vs. Eric AdamsonDark MatchShane Hagadorn vs. Derek DempseySingles MatchBJ Whitmer (w/Lacey) vs. Davey AndrewsSingles MatchClaudio Castagnoli vs. Sterling KeenanSingles MatchJay Lethal vs. Jimmy Jacobs (w/Lacey)ROH Pure Title MatchNigel McGuin

  • Episode 136: Enter the Dragon

    13/10/2020 Duration: 03h21s

Two weeks after Kenta Kobashi spoiled us all with his pair of matches, the Bryan Danielson era of ROH officially kicked off with the company debut in Cleveland! Oh yeah, and the building is haunted, don't believe us, look here (https://youtu.be/IF5_XpUizVw). So join Jeff and Shane as they talk about the first time in the area, the state of the tag team division, whether or not it's good for a wrestling company to point out they bad things they are doing in a promo, Corino's entrance promos, and a whole lot more!!It's “ENTER THE DRAGON” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Network brings all the greatness to your favorite podcast providers!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-Enter The Dragon10/14/05Cleveland, Ohio, USANon Title MatchClaudio Castagnoli vs. Pure Champion Nigel McGuinnessSingles MatchMatt Stryker vs. Ricky ReyesROH Tag Team Title MatchSal Rinauro & Tony Mamaluke (c) vs. Lacey's Angels (BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs) (w/La

  • Episode 135: Unforgettable

    06/10/2020 Duration: 03h22min

Unforgettable, in every way....Coming off one of the greatest, some would say the greatest, matches in the 18+ year history of the company the night before, ROH returned to Philadelphia and the National Guard Armory for the second of Kenta Kobashi's two appearances. Not only that, but it's also a night with new Tag Team champions making their first title defense, James Gibson's final goodbye opposite Roderick Strong, a changing of the guard in Lacey's Angels, and Hagadorn not getting a one-year anniversary match (waaah). So part of this match is looking at it on it's own merit, because 15 years ago the shadow of JOE VS. KOBASHI loomed so large that this tag match of four epic talents became an afterthought. Which is a shame because, spoiler, this one is an absolute banger in its own right! Plus, this one is probably an overall better event from top to bottom! It's “UNFORGETTABLE” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Net

  • Episode 134: Glory By Honor 5: Night 2

    29/09/2020 Duration: 03h03min

You voted in the GLORY BY HONOR poll on our Twitter account, and this week we bring to you the winner!Coming off KENTA IN A TENTA (available in the archives), we head down to New York City for ROH's debut at the legendary Manhattan Center! It was certainly an historic evening for the company, but man was it ever a headache getting to that point. There were fallen soldiers, a logistical nightmare for set-up, Donald saving the day, and so much more. But once we got going ROH produced a show that many considered their greatest show of all time at that point. It's a killer line-up on paper with three title matches, including a landmark GHC Heavyweight Championship match that we unpack a bit, and of course the KENTA and Danielson title fight.Of course, we've got racism, sexism, and problematic content aplenty cause it is 2006, so we talk about how that looks 14 years later, and we talk what it was like to watch Bryan work through this match knowing the pain he was experiencing from his injury. It's “GLORY BY HONOR V

  • Episode 133: Killer Instinct

    22/09/2020 Duration: 02h34min

In late 2012, ROH returned to New Jersey for the first time in three years, but not to the Inman Sports Centre over in Edison where they called home for 4 years, rather off to Jersey All Pro country in Rahway!(Spoiler, it also marked the last time Ring of Honor would run the Garden State so does that mean they killed the town?)It's the heart of Kevin Steen's World Title run, SCUM holding two of the three championships, the evolution of wrestlers like Mike Bennett, Adam Cole, and Kyle O'Reilly, and some surprising work from Mike Mondo (yes of the Spirit Squad). So join Jeff & Shane as they talk the total lack of advertising, a great match marred by terrible booking, bye bye Corney, Jay Lethal needing depth, and a lot more! • Episode 132: Glory By Honor 7

Lots of time spent at The Arena lately for the podcast, this time it is the first time since in 2006's ARENA WARFARE (available in the archives). ROH is bringing a cage, Hagadorn is breaking an arm, and there are belts aplenty being defended! We've got championships from NOAH, the NWA, FIP, and ROH all up for grabs in Philly. It was certainly a weird time in honorville as the booking of tenure of Gabe Sapolsky nears its end just over a month after this event. So we talk about Hagadorn finding that out for certain at this event, reciting THE Shane Douglas promo badly, the disappointing main event, and more as Jeff and Shane talk “GLORY BY HONOR VII” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Network brings all the greatness to your favorite podcast providers!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-GLORY BY HONOR VII09/20/08PHILADELPHIA, PASingles MatchJerry Lynn vs. Kenny KingNWA World Heavyweight Title MatchBrent Albright (c) vs. Adam Pearce (w/ Lar

  • Episode 131: Christopher Daniels 2002-2004 in ROH

    08/09/2020 Duration: 03h16min

There are few men who exemplified the heart of and soul of a young Ring of Honor than the man who waged war on the Code of Honor. The leader of the Prophecy Christopher Daniels faced many tough battles in the early days of Ring of Honor. With Shane Hagadorn out on assignment Jeff and substitute host Alex ‘Sugarfoot’ Payne steps in to discuss the selfless veteran stewardship The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels. Samoa Joe, Low Ki, Bryan Danielson, Xavier, Homicide and even CM Punk all former champs and opponents for the man we’d come to know and respect as the Fallen Angel get discussion during this week’s history of the first two years of Honor for Christopher Daniels.Jeff and Alex Payne are talking “Christopher Daniels in ROH 2002-2004” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Network brings all the greatness to on your favorite podcast providers!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-An Honorable Mention Podcast is hosted by Jeff Schwartz &

Out of 2006, off to 2010, and up to the GREATER BOSTON AREA, if you consider 45 minutes away from Boston the “area” that is (ROH certainly did). It's the debut in Plymouth, the first of three shows that went down at the venue over the next six months, and also probably the shortest event in ROH history as it clocks in at two hours and five minutes of DVD time!So we've got the merits of a 30 minute draw with a champion on his way out the door, justifying two heel teams having a first blood match, Grizzly Redwood getting WORKED UP, a hidden gem of a World Tag Title match, and the early miss with Mike Bennett.Jeff and Shane are talking “FADE TO BLACK” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and of course, the Creative Control Network brings all the greatness to on your favorite podcast providers!-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-FADE TO BLACK09/10/10PLYMOUTH, MADark Match Nick Westgate vs. Julian Starr ROH World Television Title Match Eddie Edwards (c) vs. Erick Stevens (w/Prin

Still 2006, but a few months earlier, and the ROH/CZW is in its infancy when ROH (following a forced building change) invaded their home turf at the New 2300 CZW Bingo Alhambra X3PW Hall. Notably absent are the Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness, Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli, Low Ki who was announced initially but fired/quit/whatever, and Jimmy Rave to name a few, but it didn't stop ROH from running way over! Why you may ask? When planes are late and airports a mystery, stallers gotta stall! And that is what we get with the final two matches on the card! Is it good? Is it bad? • Episode 128: The Bitter End

    18/08/2020 Duration: 03h01min

The year was 2006, Ring of Honor was deep into Homicide's Road To The Title story arc, had abruptly turned Jim Cornette heel a few months earlier, and formed a little stable around him that no one really remembers. Here, ROH is back in Philly for the first time since Cage Of Death and bringing the legendary Corino/Homicide feud to a close with the return. Does it work, or does a law of diminishing returns apply?Plus racism and homophobia run rampant all over this show with multiple Cornette promos helping to dull a crowd that seemed to be struggling for life from jump street, KENTA has the last match of his 2006 run, The Kings have all the belts in indie wrestling when Claudio seems to be departing, and plenty more!Listen in as Jeff and Shane talk “THE BITTER END” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Podcorn.com, THE right place to find the right sponsors for your podcast, and of course, the Creative Control Network presents the greatness to all your favorite podcast providers!-

  • Episode 127: Night of the Grudges II

    11/08/2020 Duration: 02h31min

Out of 2003, and onto the first show of the post-CM Punk era of Ring of Honor! And not only is it one event, fans got two shows that August 2005 day in New Jersey! Problem is, one of those shows has been utterly eradicated from history and there is no official video footage out there on any ROH release. You'll have to listen to hear more about where this footage may exist...As for the main show, well it is certainly one of the most infamous to oldhead fans, one in which word of mouth certainly prevented it from being a DVD seller of any kind, and despite having TWO World Title matches on the card, and a Pure Title main event for the first (probably only) time, it was pretty much viewed as a failure of an event. Listen in as Jeff and Shane talk more about the how and why of “NIGHT OF THE GRUDGES II” on this week's episode of AN HONORABLE MENTION, brought to you by Podcorn.com, THE right place to find the right sponsors for your podcast, and of course, the Creative Control Network presents the greatness to
