A recent recipient of the Meritorious Service Cross of Canada, Ray is an Explorer in Residence of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. In 2015 Canadian Geographic recognized Ray as one of Canada’s Top Explorers. He’s run 14,000+km across the world’s deserts and completed multiple unsupported expeditions in some of the coldest places on the planet. Of note on November 1, 2006, the former “pack a day smoker” turned ultra-runner and two friends, Charlie Engle and Kevin Lin, set out on an expedition to cross the Sahara Desert by foot. 111 days and 7,500 km after leaving the coast of Senegal, Africa they completed their journey by stepping into the Red Sea. 02/04/2019 Duration: 53minThis episode features Jesse Lumsden who after a standout college football career at McMaster University where he won the Hec Crighton Trophy as the most outstanding CIS football player went on to play four years for the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he was nominated for Rookie of the Year in 2006 and an East All-star team member in 2007. In 2009 he signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Eskimos but a shoulder injury ended the season very early. He turned this injury into opportunity and pushed in the 2 and 4-man Bobsled with legend Pierre Leuders at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. He called it quits in football in 2010 and went on to compete at two more Olympic games in Sochi and PyeongChang racing in both the 2 and 4 man events. Pierre’s post-athletic career was in coaching initially, and he was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins when they won the Stanley Cup in 1992. He also had a brief stint as head coach of the Hartford Whalers in 1993. He further coached in Ottawa and in the East Coast Hockey league with Baton Rouge. Pierre became a color commentator for CJOH in Montreal covering the Montreal Canadiens through the late ’90s and into the 2000s before becoming TSN’s lead hockey analyst.
