Throwing Light

Informações:

Synopsis

The opposite of throwing shade, TL is explores the intersection of spirituality and mental health. With a hefty dose of metaphysics and a whole lot of vulnerability, TL asks questions like: What does it mean to co-create with the universe? Does magic exist? What can ordinary people do about the great injustices of our time? What does living a meaningful life look like? Can we make coffee a food group? Host Brandy Walker attempts to answer these questions, and start new conversations about old paradigms, all while being her awkward, adorable self.

  • E036: Sober AF

    22/01/2019 Duration: 16min

Alright, friends. This one's a doozy. On April 21st, 2018, after one of the scariest nights of my life, I made the decision to quit drinking—for good. This is that story. Not only what happened that inspired me to choose sobriety, but also how I did it—how I'm doing it: the tools and resources that made this new freedom possible. That night wasn't the first time I'd questioned whether drinking was benefiting me. If I'm honest, I think I've been asking this question since at least 2014. That means it took four years of internal conflict and cognitive dissonance to finally make the leap. During that time, notably, my drinking didn't get worse. But, more importantly, it didn't make my life any better. For a long time I didn't quit because I didn't want to be that person who people pitied because she was dry. I also couldn't fathom going the rest of my life without a glass of wine. Nine months later, it feels like undiluted freedom. I'm clear headed and happy, racing toward my goals and feeling oh so aligned with

  • E035: New Year, New Plan

    15/01/2019 Duration: 20min

Am I too late? Are we still doing New Year's Resolutions? Happy 2019! I know I'm a little late. But think of it this way, if you feel like you're already running behind, you're at least way ahead of me. ;) There aren't really any show notes for this episode. It's really me dishing everything I hope to accomplish in the hopes that it will inspire you to dream those particular dreams that are really scaring the bejeezus out of you. Now, go! Get out of here and do your thing! I hope 2019 truly is your best year—ever. Thank you for listening! Throwing Light is for people who believe in the restoration and healing of the world and who aren't hung up on outdated dogma that seeks to dictate what that's supposed to look like. I'm interested in connecting with people who seek healing and restoration for themselves and the world and who are paying attention in micro and macro ways that they can see it happening in real time. I promise that engaging with this podcast will help you on your healing journey and move you to

  • E034: An Interview with Author Jenipher Lyn!

    28/12/2018 Duration: 38min

Merry everything and happy always! We made it. Through the joy and the stress and the family drama. And now we get to look forward to 2019. And there's something about it. It just feels like it's going to be a good year. And I'm stoked to end 2018 with this interview. Jenipher Lyn and I met online in a group Michelle Ward created years ago called the When I Grow Up Clubhouse. In 2013 (ish) I ran an online class for the Christian season of Lent called Be and asked Jen to teach a week of the course. Over time, we began to realize that we had a lot in common (like tons of anxious energy and a passion for creating something bigger than ourselves) and began to Skype every few weeks. The rest, I guess, is history. In this episode, we talk about finding our purpose, oversharing, and the annoying need to make it work as workaholic passion people. Jen shares vulnerably about intense anxiety she had while she was pregnant and what running a business looks like after having a baby. We talk about how we gained confidence

  • E033: Making Spirits Bright

    12/12/2018 Duration: 20min

I love this time of year. The cozy atmosphere. The presents. The decorations. The possibility of snow. But I know it can be a difficult season for a lot of people. It has a way of amplifying whatever you're going through. For those of us who are homeless or who have loved ones who are, this time of year can be particularly painful. If that's you, I'm with you. In this episode, I talk about a story that was on the news a couple of weeks ago. It's scary and with it comes the temptation to shut our windows and our doors and our hearts. I'm inviting us all to keep them cracked, even just slightly. So that the light can get in.   I hope it encourages you. I hope you walk away feeling a littler lighter and a little more hopeful. And if you're also one of those people who love this time of year, may the joy in your heart overflow and splash on those around you. Here's the card I pulled for you! Go forth and be awakened! And here are this week's show notes! Along with, as promised, a few extra resources that would ha

  • E032: Broke and Optimistic

    28/11/2018 Duration: 29min

I thought it'd be good to share way too much right out the gate of season two. I mean, if you're a new listener, you gotta know what you're getting into, right? This episode is not overtly spiritual. It doesn't hit you over the head with abundance mindset. But then again, we owe $335,000 in student loan debt and I'm still smiling, so maybe it does. A correction and a couple of notes— I say with confidence that Dr. Phil asks "who's the doctor?" when confronted with someone who has over $150,000 in student loans. But that is not so! It's Dave Ramsey who says that. That was a strange Freudian slip. And in fact, I wasn't talking about Dr. Phil at all. But when you think about it, they're kind of the same person. When talking about our rent, I accidentally say we owe $6,000 a month. I do correct that one! And laugh hysterically in the process. Paying $2,000 a month in rent is quite steep, but it could be worse, right? Listed below is the bounty of resources I mention in this episode. So grateful for the

  • E031: Welcome To Season 2

    15/11/2018 Duration: 25min

Aaaaaand, we're back! It's season two, and we are just getting started. I am positively giddy to be up and running again. And I've missed you! How the heck have you been? In this episode, I share all about what's going on with me. But I would love to hear all about what's going on with YOU! Please feel free to DM me on Instagram or message me on Facebook. I've been thinking about you a lot. What you're going through, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And how I can be of service to you. Here's what I've come up with: My podcast is for people who believe in the restoration and healing of the world and who aren't hung up on outdated dogma that seeks to dictate what that's supposed to look like. I will focus on people who seek healing and restoration for themselves and the world and who are paying close enough attention in micro and macro ways that they can see it happening in real time. I promise that engaging with this podcast will help you on your healing journey and move you toward your greater purpose. Couple
