US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Hamas is responsible for the impasse in the efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and a hostage deal. Palestinian affairs expert Dr Ronnie Shaked from the Truman Institute at Jerusalem’s Hebrew university says that Hamas has not changed its position on a ceasefire since October 7th and aims to continue to control Gaza after the war. He told KAN's Mark Weiss that Hamas  insists on an end to the war , a  full Israeli military withdrawal and the return of displaced residents to northern Gaza. In his debut book "In the Third Person," (בגוף שלישי) author Ariel Dloomy explores conceptions of Israeli manhood, and the internal tensions his protagonists grapple with in their identities. While not autobiographical, the 10 stories in the collection draw from touchstones in Dloomy's life, including his kibbutz childhood on Nahal Oz in the Gaza periphery. SOS Israel is an organization that works to raise awareness about the growing PTSD phenomenon, especially after October 7 and the ongoing war. Its new initiative: "Thank you for your Service" is a mentoring project that pairs IDF veterans dealing with PTSD with those most recently affected – in the Iron Swords war, providing support and building resilience together. Far-right parties made big gains in the European Parliament in election results that rattled the traditional powers and made French President Emmanuel Macron call snap legislative elections. Dr. Miriam Rosman, a historian and expert European and Israel-French relations and member of the Forum Devora, said that Macron was making a big risk with his call for snap elections. She told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the elections also raised the skepticism of the extreme right toward the European Union. A special exhibition is opening at the Dizengoff Center in Tel Aviv that honors the contribution of members of the LGBT community in the defense of the state. It’s called Pride in Uniform” and curators Yoav Meir and Gili Sivan have dedicated it to Maj. Saguy Golan who fell in battle against Hamas in kibbutz Be’eri on October 7th, just a week before he was to have married his partner Omer Ohana. The curators got 10 of the country’s top designers to fashion clothes made from army uniforms and Israeli flags. World leaders paid tribute to veterans and pledged to continue to stand for democracy as they marked the 80th anniversary of the June 6, 1944, D Day landings , when more than 150,000 Allied soldiers invaded France by sea and air to drive out the forces of Nazi Germany. With the numbers of veterans fast dwindling, this year's event is likely to be the last major ceremony in Normandy honoring them in their presence. Shavuot , commonly known in English as the Feast of Weeks, is one of the biblically-ordained Three Pilgrimage Festivals. It occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan. Shavuot marked the wheat harvest in the Land of Israel in the Bible  . In addition, rabbinic tradition teaches that the date also marks the revelation of the ten Commandments  to Moses  and the Israelites  at Mount Sinai. After the war cabinet  discussed Israel’s options in response to the mounting Hizbullah rocket and drone fire on northern Israel, PM Netanyahu toured Kiryat Shmona and vowed that Israel is ready for a very powerful response.  IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi  said Tuesday that the political leadership would have to come to a decision soon whether to launch an offensive in Lebanon. The Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel has released its annual “Picture of the Nation” today, presenting findings on the economy, health, education, health and more. Prof. Avi Weiss, President of the Taub Center and professor of economics at Bar Ilan University said the war was impacting strongly but that Israel’s economy was showing itself to be resilient. An expanded panel of nine High Court justices heard six petitions against the widespread military service exemptions granted to ultra-Orthodox men and the government stipends to yeshivot for students who no longer have a legal exemption. The petitions come after the recent expiration of a contentious government decision extending an arrangement for the draft exemptions, which itself expired a year ago. Advocate Shlomit Ravitsky Tur-Paz, the head of the Jacob’s Center for Shared Society at the Israel Democracy Institute, said the justices were more inclined than ever before to actually rule on the draft deferment issue that has dragged on for decades since the reality in Israel had changed, mainly because of the war and need for more soldiers. US President Joe Biden on Friday presented what he called the latest Israeli proposal for a hostage release and ceasefire deal to end the Gaza war. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said over the weekend the conditions for ending the war in Gaza have not changed.
