  • Episode 85. That's the name of the episode. (Back to the Record Fair Part 1)

    09/11/2016 Duration: 01h04min

ALL. STAR. (pod)CAST. YO.  Myself, Sean Sheap and S. Hershel Walker returned to the Illawarra Record Fair for the 3rd time this year and recorded TWO episodes. This is part one, where we were joined by Peter Langstaff and two former Vox FM alums in DJ Fury and Bruno the Bluesman, also known as Dr. Dust, according to Lord Lucifer. We neglected to actually clarify that, but it sounds cool. I always wanted a cool nickname, like Smokey, but it never took off. It's not the same when you name yourself. We took in the scenery, had some pub-grub and talked a colossal amount of codswallop about a bunch of things. As mentioned above, this is part one. It would always shit me when podcasts split up episodes into two parts, but I'd like to think we do it artfully.. Or that's what I'm telling myself anyway. Plus you always end up becoming what you hate the most. It's a fact of life.  Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon...ish.

  • Episode 84. Pocket motions in the Players Lounge with S'Hershel & Sean Sheap.

    31/10/2016 Duration: 01h12min

This weekend people! It's here! The Crate Diggers Collective proudly presents the Illawarra Record Fair III, with colour commentary by us rapscallions at Pod Kembla! If you haven't heard already, check the event info below, and also check out the exciting things that Sean Sheap and S'Hershel have happening with their ventures too!  On this episode we basically just talked a bunch of crap at the venue formally known as The Grand, then Cooneys and then The Grand once again, in sunny Wollongong on a Thursday afternoon. Hilarity, wrongness and non-sequesters ensued!  Illawarra Record Fair III - https://www.facebook.com/events/1206507016058968/ Sean Sheap - https://www.facebook.com/DJ-Sean-Sheap-105319947491/?fref=ts Masterblaster - https://www.facebook.com/MasterBlasterMusicGroup/?fref=ts

  • Episode 83. Peter Langstaff meets me at Dicey's.

    20/10/2016 Duration: 01h03min

Peter Langstaff is a really nice guy. Until very recently he was a part of the long running local music radio show "Doing it Locally" on VoxFM. On top of that, he plays and makes music too. A few weeks ago we met up at Dicey Riley's to talk about music, podcasts, comedy and of course radio. In particular, community radio. On this episode, basically I come to terms with the fact that Vox FM is my 'White Whale', or in the podcast parlance; they are the Lorne Michaels to my Marc Maron.. Seeing that typed out makes me look pretty sad indeed! Nevertheless, this one was really fun because I got to chat to a guy I've heard of and know about, but never actually met and it was good times all round. Many thanks to Peter for taking the time out, and keep an eye out for his future endeavours be that of the musical nature, or the podcast variety. Links below. South Coast podcasting ya'll, we're making it happen! More on that later. Vulcan gang sign salutations!  Facebook: Peter Langstaff Twitter: @peterlangstaff Instagram

  • Episode 82. The W@*%ing Dead. (Numsi returns.. Again!)

    12/10/2016 Duration: 01h05min

It's been a minute, or to be more specific it's been over twenty thousand minutes, since our last episode. This time Numsi and myself talked about his recent posting at The Smooth Festival of Chocolate at The Rocks in Sydney. Naturally, being that Numsi is a Melbourne food and drink guru, we talked about food and coffee along with our usual blend of smut peddling.  Now, in a few weeks (6th of November) the mighty-mighty Crate Diggers Collective are putting on the third Illawarra Record Fair for the year at , and yours truly along with the usual suspects will be there to talk a bit of shit and hang out. If you want to buy some records, have a club lunch or even talk some shit with us then come along and join the party! Follow the links and let's get it on! #thereversesex Music Intro - Aesop Rock & Homeboy Sandman : Environmental Studies, from the mixtape "Lice".  Mentioned - Akinyele : Put It In Your Mouth. NOTE: I talk about how I'm trying to sell stuff on eBay, if you're interested then take a look here

  • Episode 81. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why podiums were invented.

    28/09/2016 Duration: 59min

The Sheap is back! This time around Sean Sheap and I met up at Dicey Riley's and talked a bunch of smack. Topics covered were the internet, hip hop culture and The Get Down, the downfall of Masters, other things and of course the internet. Yes, I wrote "the internet" twice. Now I've said it three times, and if I was to list it corresponding with the amount of times it comes up on the episode this post would be close to infinite. Oh, and I struggle with the word "plural" it seems, hash tag: #prural.  The documentary we were talking about, but couldn't remember the name of is called "Fresh Dressed" and can be found on here on Netflix.  We also talk about Sean's friend @clay_by_bec who did some tremendous custom figurines for him, so if you'd like some of your own that's where to go.  Last but not least, the Sheap has been uploading some videos on his Facebook page of late, showcasing his wizardry on the 1's and 2's, so if you're not already on that or his online archiving of his vinyl collection go and get your

  • Episode 80. Live from Kurt's Tosh with @marcelodraws & @patgrantart

    21/09/2016 Duration: 01h06min

After an extended break, we're back! On this episode I met up with previous guest Marcelo Baez and newcomer to Pod Kembla, Pat Grant. Both of these fine gentlemen are comics creators, ambassadors, educators and all round great blokes. Another thing they have in common is their superb and iconic poster design; in Marcelo's case in the form of the 3D Comic Gong poster that you may have seen around the traps earlier in the year, and Pat drew this years now infamous Yours & Owls Festival poster that has been plastered up and down the South Coast, even making its way as far as Sydney. They both gracefully agreed to meet me at Kürtõsh down at Globe Lane to talk about their craft, comics and design history as well as a little bit of life spruced in for good measure.  However, most importantly I wanted to talk with Pat about his spectacular book Blue, and the subsequent live reading/performance which is happening at the Arts Precinct in Wollongong on Thursday the 29th of September, as a part of the Yours & Ow

  • Episode 79. Illawarra Record Fair II.

    07/07/2016 Duration: 01h19min

Last weekend myself, S'Hershel and Sean Sheap returned to the Illawarra Record Fair at the Bulli Workers Club. This time we actually recorded from inside the room where the records were being sold! That PM Dawn cover song springs to mind.. Also making a return to the podcast is event organiser, Lord Lucifer of the Devils Jukebox on Northside Radio 99.3 for those in and around the Sydney area. It was another terrific time, and as you can imagine we all bought a bunch of shit and talked about it while I derailed the conversations with my weird musings on Jay Z and Beyonce's love life, Serena Williams and just in general. Still, fun times had by all so keep an eye out for the next one in November if that's your thing by following The Crate Diggers Collective on Facebook.

  • Episode 78. Doesn't make a cent with Troy and Arlin.

    22/06/2016 Duration: 01h08min

I hung out with Troy and Arlin at Troys studio last weekend. I've known Troy forever, we grew up just a few houses away and, along with our respective sisters, spent a fair bit of time together as young'ns having all kinds of adventures.. Then high-school happened. Some people thrive in that environment, some people don't and others have no idea what is going on most of the time and bullshit their way through to 'fit-in' the best that they can. I'm of the third category persuasion.. At least I think I was, it was all a good while ago now. Hash tag; I'm old. Troy has always marched to the beat of his own drum, and that has led him to an existence where he creates things on a daily basis. His friend Rachel, who goes by the name Arlin when making music, joined us and we had a chat about their respective projects all whilst having a good old fashioned conversation jam session over a couple of cold beverages. Oh, and this picture was waiting for me when I arrived to record, drawn by the maestro Troy himself. If yo

  • Episode 77. Anne-Louise Rentell.

    08/06/2016 Duration: 40min

Anne-Louise runs the Vault Cabaret, which is held at the Vault on Wentworth Street here in mighty-mighty Port Kembla, and has done the last 13 years. I reached out to Anne-Louise a little while ago because I came across an article about how she was starting up walking tours in Port Kembla. This area has a rich history throughout it's boom times as well as it's not so boom times, up until now where it seems there is a resurgence which has been happening for a few years now. In the walking tours, titled "Where Lies Beauty", this history is explored through examining the area, the architecture and the community through their stories. The first tour was held in April to a very favourable reception. The next is scheduled for the 18th of this month of June, and then again on Saturday the 23rd of July. To keep up with the happenings follow Where Lies Beauty on Twitter and Facebook and drop them a line to get more information. Also, keep an eye out for the Vault Cabaret by checking in with the Merrigong Theatre Co. A

  • Episode 76. Andy Social visits Port Kembla.

    01/06/2016 Duration: 01h49min

I've mentioned Andy on the podcast numerous times before, and now he's on Pod Kembla! Ahh the magic of podcasts.. So now you're going to hear me talking about 9 million* dollars until it arrives, ALL. THE. TIME. YAWL!  No, in all seriousness, I came across Andy at the beginning of the year through his podcast "The Andy Social Podcast", but that's not all he does. He's also very prominently the bassist in Australian metal band "LORD" and has toured the world with them. However, his podcast is what I've come to know him for. If you haven't already, you should definitely check it out on iTunes, YouTube or any of the other various platforms he has available to get it. He has an array of interesting guests on his show, and I always feel like I've learned something after listening. Whether it be about music, philosophy, business and a broader sense life in general. This is probably something I should be putting in an iTunes review to be honest.. Which I may just do once I get this little blurb thing finished and th

  • Episode 75. Round 2.

    25/05/2016 Duration: 01h11min

This time around I talked running (a concept foreign to me, unless we're talking metaphorically) with Josh and Karen. They're both avid runners, only picking up the habit of it in the last few years and now they participate in marathons. Like, marathons! Josh is, first and foremost, an artist and he documents his running quest as an evolving online document via instagram. You can follow along by searching the hashtag #runnersketch or even follow his account @wiffen1. Also, keep an eye on his YouTube channel.

  • Episode 74. Comic Gong adjacent.

    18/05/2016 Duration: 01h03min

Last weekend I went to Wollongong's fast growing comics and pop culture festival "Comic Gong", and met up with Sean Sheap, S'Hershel, DJ Hifi, Brendan and Angus. And we talked. I ate a burger beforehand, and it was dee-to-the-licious (Thanks Three Chimneys). We laughed, cried and ate chocolate. One of these things we actually didn't do, I'll leave that open to interpretation.

  • Episode 73. It's not funny, it's important. #shedmusic

    19/04/2016 Duration: 01h29min

Sean Sheap and S'Hershel* met me at the Charles Hotel in Fairy Meadow on a Sunday morning and we soaked in the glorious ambiance and had a chat. The Charles holds some significance for Sheap, which he goes into when we were sitting on the front courtyard, where we held court over the rest of the yard. The fact that we were the only ones there at the time isn't important, we rocked that place... HARD! *Tom Gleeson voice* *fictional character

  • Episode 72. Float forever @ Cocoon Floatation.

    12/04/2016 Duration: 01h09min

Okay, this one has some backstory. Two years ago, Megan from Cocoon Floatation in Figtree contacted me after listening to this podcast and asked me if I would like to try out floating and podcasting about it. I think when I originally got the emails from her I thought she wanted me to podcast from inside the tank.. Yeah I know, a ridiculous notion, and how I came to that conclusion, I don't know. Well I do know; I'm me and interpret things "creatively" sometimes.. Yeah, that's a nice way of putting it. I guess actually podcasting from inside the tank is not entirely impossible, but after doing it I realise it would be probably counter productive to what you're meant to get from floating.  Anyway, I flaked for a long time. At the time I hadn't recorded the podcast for a while, a few months at least, and I'd convinced myself that I may have been done with podcasting, I was finding it hard to put myself out there, and the thought of going to this place and doing something like floating in salt water in a dark (a

  • Episode 71. To be or not to be; likeable.

    05/04/2016 Duration: 01h18min

The Skype crew has a new name, thus the Church of Daptology is now in session. We discuss how one becomes more likeable by reading listicles, as well as a bit of half baked politics and there's even a "too much information" moment from myself. If I'm realistic, Pod Kembla in general could be accused of having too much (useless) information about me and my idiocy.

  • Episode 70. Hash tag, yay podcasting.

    14/03/2016 Duration: 56min

Taking it back to the source this week, the Skype crew returns and we've added a new member. Joining Matt, Nugz and myself this week is Vaughny. We talk that Daptology Philosophy (trademark), like we only know how to do. More to come on that in a week or two.. Stay tuned; the revolution will be podcasted and then consumed at your own leisure.

  • Episode 69. A Kurt between two Sean/Shaun's (live-ish from Bulli).

    07/03/2016 Duration: 01h10min

On location! I met up with Sean Sheap and Snidermayne at the recent "Illawarra Record Fair" at Bulli Workers Club. We talked a little music, a little hot button vulgarity and a whole lot of crap and it was marvellous. Special mention goes out to Lord Lucifer of the Devil's Jukebox for making a cameo on this humble rag-tag podcast, and for putting on a great event along with the Crate Diggers Collective.

  • Episode 68. Mike Elrington.

    27/02/2016 Duration: 46min

Mike Elrington is a blues musician who will be playing at Janes in North Wollongong on the 10th of March, to launch his recently released album "Two Lucky Stars". Mike graciously indulged me with his time to chat about his album, music and life in general. A little house keeping; near the end of the episode I mention Stevie Ray Vaughan, what I meant to say was Neil Young.. If that means nothing to you then that's fine by me, if it does then I'm glad to clear it up for all of us. Anyway, many thanks to Mike for taking time out of his schedule to wax lyrical on Pod Kembla.

  • Episode 67. Ironing at 3am.

    12/02/2016 Duration: 01h05min

    Everyday people. Everydaieeyay.

  • Episode 66. President of the Internet.

    20/01/2016 Duration: 53min

New year, new fees! Featuring the OG Skype Crew. Extended Player forthcoming.
