  • Feature Discussion: 1995-1999

    13/07/2021 Duration: 02h20min

Welcome to our bonus podcast for the week! We've decided to give it a go spacing out our main and bonus episodes after it seemed to go down well splitting them up during the Euros. Although we can't guarantee which day the bonus podcast will be out each week because of our own schedules, it's likely to be either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for the time being, with the main Street Talk episode out every Saturday as usual. Let's see how it goes! This podcast (which we actually recorded a couple of weeks ago, so sorry if any of the references aren't quite up to date!) we chat about the episodes we've been watching on our DVDs from between 1995 and 1999. This is the era that Corrie saw a big shift in tone as well as a bit of an overhaul of the cast. Out went the likes of Bet, Raquel, Derek and Percy, and in came the Battersbys, the Mallets and fan favourites Roy and Hayley. The late 90s also had Corrie hitting the headlines with the notorious Free The Weatherfield One story, tackled domestic violence in the M

  • Corrie's Royal Connections

    08/07/2021 Duration: 01h01min

For this week's bonus podcast, we thought we'd jump on the royal bandwagon following today's visit to the cobbles by the Queen. After chatting about what went on during her tour of the Street, we take a look back at previous times that Corrie has been graced by royalty, including when the Queen opened the set on Quay Street in 1982 and when Prince Charles showed up to shake Audrey's hand in the 40th anniversary episode. As well as this, we chat about the time the show allegedly got a royal rap on the knuckles by mentioning Prince Philip's name on air, explain why Vera Duckworth was so convinced she had blue blood, and remember when Alf Roberts got his OBE at the palace - and why Audrey had to get down there to see it by hitch-hiking!

  • Conversation Street Episode 478

    06/07/2021 Duration: 02h49min

In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street released on the ITV Hub on the 5th July, and set for broadcast on TV between the 5th and the 9th. This week was all about characters getting their claws into their man at all costs, with both Daisy and Todd resorting to devious means to get what they want. They're not the only ones with men issues either, as Izzy's got a mystery house guest who gets tongues a-wagging at the factory. The rumour mill is on Fiz's mind too as she urges Tyrone to fess up to the girls about Alina's big news, and Gail is set to put it all behind her as she heads off to Thailand. Next up on the podcast, we ponder whether Corrie will be following EastEnders' lead in continuing to release episodes early online during the Olympincs, then we round things off with more of your listener feedback. • Leanne Battersby Character Profile Revisit - Episode 477

    03/07/2021 Duration: 01h04min

This week's bonus podcast is a character profile revisit of birthday girl Leanne Battersby, who we first profiled way back in Episode #20 of Conversation Street. Since then, she's faced drama upon drama, including suffering abuse from son Simon and of course, the tragedy of Oli's death last year. In this episode, we look back on everything Leanne's been up to since 2012, and chat about the up and down relationship that we as a podcast have had with the character over the past nine years.

  • Conversation Street Episode 477

    29/06/2021 Duration: 02h43min

On our latest podcast, we have a bit of a natter about the episodes of Corrie released on the ITV Hub on Monday 28th June, and set for broadcast on TV between the 29th June and the 2nd July. Alina and Tyrone have got a big secret this week, and it's only going to get bigger over the next nine months. Can they keep it quiet from everyone, and most importantly, Fiz? Meanwhile, James is on cloud 9 when he hears he's taking over from Tommy O at County, but when Danny returns to the cobbles with the news that he's off to start a new job in France, will James be able to bring himself to do what it takes to stop him? Also this week: management reshuffles at Underworld and the Rovers, and things aren't looking good for Ryan and Alya.. After Street Talk, we head over to the Kabin to find out what's been going on in the news for Corrie, and we round off the show with more of your listener feedback. • Our Reflections On 2021 So Far: Episode 476

    26/06/2021 Duration: 01h37min

We've pretty much reached the halfway point of another year, and in this episode of the podcast, we take a look at the first six months of 2021 on Corrie and chat about how it's all going. With the end of 2020 marking the climax of the long-running coercive control story as well as the tragic but inevitable death of Oliver Battersby, we started the year excited to see what direction our favourite characters would go in next. A massive story for the Corrie teens was promised, which turned out to be the compelling drama of the attack on Nina and Seb, the repercussions of which promise to continue well into the second half of the year. 2021 also teased the return of a legacy character from Rita's past, and we certainly 'ad it when Sharon Bentley rocked up on the Street, looking for trouble. Meanwhile, a few of our favourite couples have been split up, Peter's been drinking in the Last Chance Saloon, and you thought Jane Danson might get a break after everything Leanne went through last year? No chance! We fini

  • Conversation Street Episode 476

    22/06/2021 Duration: 02h39min

On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Corrie released on the ITV Hub on Monday 21st June, and set for broadcast on TV between the 21st and the 25th. It's the week of the big trial, and Leanne is still adamant she's going to tell the truth about the hell Harvey's put her family through these past few months. Will she be able to hold her nerve in court? Meanwhile, Sean tries some suitin' and recruitin' in the name of Double Glammy, Summer gets a dire diabetes diagnosis, and Ty and Alina don't join the territorial army. There's some happy news for Kate Spencer in the Kabin, and we round off the show with a bumper batch of listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:13:49 The Kabin - 01:55:42 Feedback - 02:02:45

  • Listener Questions - Episode 475

    19/06/2021 Duration: 58min

In this week's bonus podcast, we answer another pair of questions sent in by listeners. First off, Jon wants to know which characters from the 60s and 70s we think would fit right into modern Corrie.  Not an easy task, that one, but we think we found a few who'd slot right in without changing too much about their personality or style! Next up, a nice summery question from Navdeep, who challenges us to pick five Corrie couples who we'd invite round for a barbecue. Lots of factors to consider there including dietary requirements, entertainment value and who we think we'd get on with - can you guess who we might have decided on?

  • Conversation Street Episode 475

    15/06/2021 Duration: 02h47min

On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Corrie released on the ITV Hub on Monday 14th June, and set for broadcast on the telly between the 14th and the 20th. Like many of you, we've already binged this week's episodes online, so if you don't want things spoiled, you may want to wait until Sunday evening to find out our thoughts on the returning characters, the brushes with death, Ty's new purchase and some Father's Day hijinks... After Street Talk, we take a look at some of the Corrie related news stories that have broken over the past few days in The Kabin, then we round things  off with more of your listener feedback! • Conversation Street Episode 474

    12/06/2021 Duration: 02h57min

On this week's episode of the podcast, we prattle on about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 7th and the 11th June (Episodes #10344 - 10349). This week, romance is in the air for Dev and his unlikely new conquest, Bernie. We must say, despite some initial reservations about the prospect of the two of them getting together, we did quite enjoy them sneaking around on Wednesday, and Bernie's face when she tiptoed down the stairs was a picture. Speaking of pictures, what about that photo of Tyrone and Alina, eh? Utterly cringeworthy, but a great opportunity for some funny scenes in the flat! Meanwhile, the Purple Bricks sign goes up at the Rovers after Johnny decides to sell up, Nina finds the grief of losing Seb too much to bear and turns to the bottle, and there's a special delivery for Peter. Not a whole lot in the way of Corrie news this week, so we give The Kabin a swerve, but make up for it with a bumper feedback session, where we hear about your views on Corrie on the ITV Hub, Jenny and Johnny sp

  • Mavis Wilton Character Profile - Episode 474

    12/06/2021 Duration: 01h39min

In this week's bonus podcast, we're living the life of Riley as we take a look at the story of one of Corrie's most beloved characters from days gone by, dithery newsagent Mavis. Whether you thought she was at her best selling penny chews in the Kabin with Rita or at the side of her beloved husband Derek, we can all agree that Mavis had a tonne of memorable moments during her time on the cobbles. Take a listen for a discussion of some of our favourite Mavis stories, and if you "don't really know" very much about her, this is the perfect place to start!

  • Conversation Street Episode 473

    05/06/2021 Duration: 03h15min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 31st May and the 4th June (Episodes #10339 - 10343). So what went down on the cobbles this week, then? Well, Jenny for one, after an unexpected tasering courtesy of nasty Sharon, who used the opportunity to root around in Jenny's mobile to get some juicy evidence about her night romping with Ronnie. On a similar note, the back half of the week saw Asha drugging Corey so that she could find proof on his phone that he'd been the one behind the attack on Nina. Is justice for Seb in sight? Also this week, for some reason, we had some baffling filler scenes of Carla and Sarah taking back some stock of knickers that hadn't been paid for - but at least that led to a great confrontation with a few home truths on Friday. Next up on the podcast, there's The Kabin, where we spend a good chunk of time sharing our concerns about the news that, during the Euros, Corrie will be dropping episodes early on the ITV Hub on Mondays. Then, once we've

  • Conversation Street Episode 472

    29/05/2021 Duration: 03h16min

On our latest episode of the podcast, we waffle on about what went down in Weatherfield between the 24th and the 28th May in the UK (Episodes #10333 - 10338). This week, both Nick and Leanne demonstrate a severe lack of understanding of the concept of a safe house when - independently of each other, no less - they sneak back to the Street in broad daylight in the wake of Sam's kidnapping. Satisfied that her villainous lurking has paid off, Sharon decides it's time to head off home, but unfortunately for her, Harvey has other ideas... Also this week, Evelyn takes a tumble at work, the Golden Girls disband, and soap coincidence strikes again when Steve recognises Emma's new fella as the guy who knocked him off his bike last week. In The Kabin, we chat about the trailer for Colson Smith's new short film, and Gemma recounts her experience at last week's Corrie press interview with him. We finish off the podcast with more of your thoughts on the state of the show in the feedback section. Street Talk - 00:08:45

  • Corrie Behind Bars - Episode 472

    29/05/2021 Duration: 01h30min

With Faye and Harvey currently detained at her majesty's pleasure and Johnny freshly released, this week's bonus podcast focuses on the times when Corrie has gone behind bars.  For such a small community, Coronation Street has had a fair few of its residents banged up over the years - from the miscarriages of justice like Deirdre's time inside in 1998 to the well deserved sentences like Tracy's somewhat short stay in the slammer when she murdered Charlie Stubbs. We chat about these stories and more, discussing our favourites, what makes a classic soap prison plot, and pondering which characters may well end up doing porridge in the years to come.

  • Conversation Street Episode 471

    22/05/2021 Duration: 02h46min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 18th and the 22nd May (Episodes #10327 - 10332). Ooh, Michael was proper fewmin' at Corrie this week. Not since that time Dennis Tanner flounced off with Gloria Price has a scene made him as mad as he got when the powers that be decided to have Jenny roger the lodger on Monday, so if you like a good rant on the podcast, this episode could be right up your street! Then of course, you've got Sharon's attempts to message Simon on Aadi's knock-off games console that it looks like he got down Weatherfield market, Cathy's inexplicably long stay at number 6, Daisy being a massive cow-bag in both the Jenny and Sean stories... As one of Alina's Generation Z wall quotes would probably say: SMH. But we still love Corrie, though, which is why we're very much excited at the prospect of the AirBnB competition that's running next week that will give one lucky pair the chance to spend the night in a specially built pop-up hotel on t

  • Tanisha Gorey Interview - Conversation Street Episode 471

    22/05/2021 Duration: 41min

Tanisha Gorey has become one of Corrie's rising young stars over the past few years, bringing the previously minor character of Asha Alahan right into the spotlight thanks to some fantastic performances in stories revolving around issues including skin lightening, sexting and now Seb's murder. In this week's bonus podcast, we chat to Tanisha about what it was like growing up on Coronation Street, how she's found tackling some big storylines since 2019 and - because we were just desperate to know - what Jimmi Harkishin is like in real life! Also available on video over on our YouTube channel.

  • Conversation Street Episode 470

    15/05/2021 Duration: 03h04min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 10th and the 15th May 2021 (Episodes #10321 - 10326). In the aftermath of the attack on Seb and Nina, we're pleased to say Corrie managed to keep up the high bar set by last week's shocking episodes. Although we thought the reasons for the police believing Corey over Kelly were a bit iffy, the big question this week is exactly how much *was* young Miss Neelan involved in the incident - and even if she's telling the truth and didn't join in with the kicking, what consequences does she deserve? With more superb performances from the likes of Sally Carman, Millie Gibson and Mollie Gallagher this week, we were thoroughly gripped, and can't wait to see where Corrie's biggest story of the year goes next. News-wise, there's a bit to report on Corrie's latest product placement deal this week, but as it meant veering too much into spoiler territory, we decided to save it for a Kabin Extra segment at the end, but no

  • Tricia Armstrong Character Profile - Episode 470

    15/05/2021 Duration: 49min

For this week's bonus podcast, we're running a classic character profile on Tricia Armstrong. Actress Tracy Brabin has just this week been elected Mayor of West Yorkshire, so we thought we'd take the chance to chat about the character she played on Corrie in the mid-90s, having a look at how the struggles she went through on her three years on the show reflected many of the issues faced by single working mothers at the time.

  • Conversation Street Episode 469

    08/05/2021 Duration: 03h21min

On this week's podcast, we talk about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th May (Episodes #10315 - 10320). What a week that was, eh? There'd been rumblings and rumours for a fair few months that something big was going to go down with the Street's younger residents, and this week saw Seb and Nina set upon by Corey and his mates in scenes that echoed the vicious attack on Sophie Lancaster in Salford in 2007. With every actor pulling out the stops to deliver some of Corrie's most compelling episodes in a long while, this was a week that was, at times, quite difficult to watch - let alone record a podcast about! - but ultimately one that will be remembered for years to come and will no doubt be the catalyst for some big story and character developments as we go through 2021 and beyond. After a bumper edition of Street Talk where we're left reeling from those final moments in the hospital, we head on over to The Kabin to share the happy news of Brooke Vincent's new addition to the f

  • Seb Franklin Character Profile - Episode 469

    08/05/2021 Duration: 40min

For our bonus podcast this week, we do a character profile of Seb Franklin. Arriving on the Street back in 2016 as the scallywag boyfriend of Faye Windass, Seb soon took to the hearts of many a Corrie viewer after the reveal of his tough home life. A key player in the downfall of Pat Phelan, an initial suspect in the Underworld roof collapse and the hero who rescued Alina from slavery, Seb's had quite an eventful time on the cobbles, but it's surely his most recent story, in which he's violently attacked whilst walking home, that he'll ultimately be remembered.
