Episodes

  • Season 7, Episode 3 – Prestige Value

    06/01/2023 Duration: 51min

Ron, Elliott, and Pete kick off the New Year by catching up on the Cubs' free agent activity since our last epsiode. Do they take this seriously, and does Elliott feel better since his mid-December rant? The Cardinals addressed their biggest need (catcher), but then stopped. Are they working on something else? Hopefully it's starting pitching, but most likely they are "comfortable with who we have." Same BS, different year. Listen to the end for the Saga of Tony in Medina, Ohio. • Season 6, Episode 33 - The Winter Meetings!

    09/12/2022 Duration: 01h16min

One of the best times of the year for baseball fans (not Pittsburgh, Kansas City, etc.)! The Winter Meetings happened and it was nuts! Unique this year for Cubs and Cardinals fans, but not unheard of (Mr. Fowler). A Cub fan favorite comes to the other side of the rivalry, and we Cubs and Cardinals fans certainly have some strong feelings about that. Much more to talk about this week, and likely still more moves to come. • Season 6, Episode 32 – A Massive Step Away from All This Crap

    04/11/2022 Duration: 59min

Ron and Pete jump on for what is likely the final podcast of the season during Game 5 of the 2022 World Series. With nothing on the line at this point in the playoffs, they turn their attention to what will likely be a busy offseason for both the Cubs and the Cardinals. Will the Cards swap defense for offense behind the plate? Is Mo really going to bump the payroll, and is that tied to Nolan Arenado's decision to leave millions on the table? How much of an impact will Jeff Albert's and Mike Maddux's departures have on the team's performance? The Cubs' offseason will consist of two major decision points: the 40-man roster deadline and their free agency choices. Ron and Pete also go off on fans complaining about old, white broadcasters, and Ron undertakes his annual Twitter purge. Oh, and the Occasional Temporary Guest Host may have lost his title for the last time. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 31 – Frank Schwindel Went Out of His Mind

    22/10/2022 Duration: 01h04s

Team of Rivals Assemble! Elliott's back from his self-imposed exile to discuss the quick end to the Cardinals' postseason, the mediocrity of the NL Central, and what the future holds for two teams in flux. The guys also discuss the 2022 postseason while watching Game 2 of the ALCS. Finally, Pete poses the question: Which of the World Series Core do the Cubs miss most? • Season 6, Episode 30 – Most Valuable

    07/10/2022 Duration: 57min

Ron and Pete sit down to discuss the relative value of the two newly-minted home run records and why those numbers don't seem as important as they did two decades ago. It's also a bad week to be a former Cardinals manager. Finally, they wrap up the week by reflecting on the 2022 regular season and making their predictions for the 2022 postseason. Plus, we've gone pro! In a first for the Team of Rivals podcast, Elliott's content is now behind the paywall. Subscribe today at the website. (You will always receive The Originals' for free.) • Season 6, Episode 29 – 700!

    25/09/2022 Duration: 42min

Pete and Ron get together on a Sunday to talk almost exclusively about Albert Pujols and his milestone 700th HR. They also get to welcome That's a Winner Podcast to GCS. Catch it all at Gateway City Sports. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook.

  • Season 6, Episode 28 – Remembering Mark

    10/09/2022 Duration: 01h12min

This week's show was dedicated to Mark Littell, former MLB pitcher for the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals, author, CEO of Nutty Buddy, and all around great man. We'll miss him. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 27 – Aren't We All Head Cases?

    02/09/2022 Duration: 01h02min

On the eve of a Labor Day Weekend rivalry series, Ron and Pete get together for a bit of old-school ToR fun. (Elliott was out this week "packing s#!t" with his wife.) Three head cases in the news this week – Angel Hernandez, Carlos Martinez, and Willson Contreras – dominate the show before the guys (with a surprise Braden appearance) give their predictions for the outcome of this weekend's series and The Machine's chances at reaching 700 home runs. Plus, Pete throws out an idea for baseball realignment that Ron doesn't hate. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 26 - John overpaid me

    12/08/2022 Duration: 01h01min

This weeks show was more crowded than usual. Ron, Elliott and Pete were joined by B (in the middle of a fantasy draft) and Eric Haberer, a former AA pitcher for the Springfield Cardinals.   Jed Hoyer sending a message to David Ross?  "This is my house now!" Looking like JHey is done as a Cub when 2022 completes. The Cardinals coming off of a sweep against the Cubs and Yankees decided to let the altitude in Colorado get the best of them.  And what the hell did Cameron Maybin say? • Season 6, Episode 25 – The "Hold My Beer" Deadline

    03/08/2022 Duration: 49min

MLB looked at the wild-and-crazy end to the 2021 Trade Deadline and said "Hold my beer." Juan Soto went to the Padres in a blockbuster deal, and names were flying all over the United States (and Canada!), unless they were the Cubs' "big two" position players. Did the Cubs front office hold out for too much for Willson Contreras and Ian Happ? Or did the other 29 teams send a wake-up call to Cubs fans about just how good they REALLY are? Plus, what was your favorite moment of Juan Soto's Cardinals' career? Ron, Elliott, and Pete gather mere hours after the deadline to give their immediate takes on this year's deals. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 24 – Deadline Approaching

    30/07/2022 Duration: 47min

The 2022 trade deadline approaches, and Juan Soto's sudden availability is topic #1. How will the Cubs and the Cardinals be impacted by this wild card suddenly being tossed onto the table? Late in the episode, we also learn of the Angels' willingness to listen to offers for Shohei Ohtani. What the heck is going on out there? We live-streamed this week, so you can rewatch this episode on YouTube, Rumble, or Facebook. • Season 6, Episode 23 – "Buy! Sell!" Stand Pat

    15/07/2022 Duration: 57min

Ron, Elliott, and Pete get together for a much more upbeat episode despite both the Cubs' and the Cards' futility. (Who knew that being in second place in a mediocre division could be so unsatisfying?) They take a deep dive into upcoming rules changes, All-Star uniforms, and the hazards of an unsupervised voice assistant around children. 2022 All-Star jerseys: https://www.mlb.com/news/2022-all-star-game-jerseys-nike Greg Maddux's "stirrups": https://www.google.com/search?q=greg+maddux&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiVvcmJlvv4AhXUl2oFHWL8DWEQ_AUoAnoECAIQBA&biw=1490&bih=912&dpr=2 The Boy's dream job: https://youtu.be/PQuCdE4xeeA Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. • Season 6, Episode 22 - Happy 4th!

    01/07/2022 Duration: 41min

As the World burns, Pete and Ron got together without Elliott, who had to pack for a trip he didn't know about (LIE). Pete recaps his first visit to Busch Stadium III, Ron bitches about the Cardinals pitching woes, the Cubs getting closer to sell mode with a few of their veterans, and we can't remember how it ended but we're sure glad it did.   Happy 4th, or whatever that means these days! • Season 6, Episode 21 – The Monkeypox Effect

    24/06/2022 Duration: 01h17min

The Team is back again, discussing how the Cubs' abysmal performance this year is so different (and yet so similar) to their tanking from 2012 to 2014. They also set the stage for this weekend's series in St. Louis (and Pete and The Boy's plans for Saturday and Sunday). Plus, Shohei Ohtani has completely won over the Team, as they talk about the possibility of him becoming baseball's first Fifty Million Dollar Man. Ron wraps up the baseball portion of this week's podcast recounting the tale of his family's trip to see the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Oh, and then Ron, Elliott, and Pete get into their weekly nerd discussion about the series (season?) finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 20 – Protect the Boys

    17/06/2022 Duration: 01h13min

This is what happens when the Team doesn't discuss the night's show topics before hitting record. This week, you'll enjoy a discussion of Lorenzo Cain's outfield cup check, butt drags, Bob Uecker holding Bob Gibson's hand, the Cubs current stretch of futility, and the Cards sudden rise to the top of a lackluster NL Central race. And, of course, it wouldn't be a TOR episode without a discussion of Star Wars, as the guys talk about Part Five of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the future of Disney Star Wars. • Season 6, Episode 19 – The Smartest Guys in the Room

    10/06/2022 Duration: 53min

This week's episode is jam-packed with content, as the Baseball Gods have been very good to Ron, Elliott, and Pete. Tony La Russa beclowns himself, Joe Maddon gets fired, and the first rivalry series of 2022 wraps with the Cards taken two out of three from the Cubs. Right on cue, they proceed to get swept by the Rays, but all is right in Ron's world, because BroNeill is back in the lineup! The Team also explores the big questions this week: Who is more annoying to the opposing fans: Christopher Morel or Brandon Donovan? Is Ian Happ in his final weeks as a Cub? And does Pete hate Happ more than Ron hates O'Neill? This week's final segment – as always – is for the pop culture nerds. It was bound to happen under Disney, as this week's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi was terrible. If only we had known that you can hide a small human under a coat and nobody would notice, we could have gotten away so much more as kids. • Season 6, Episode 17 – Elliott's Got a Porn-stache

    05/06/2022 Duration: 01h13min

Ron, Elliott, and Pete get together before Memorial Day to discuss disappointments, including the 2022 Cubs and Paul DeJong. Ron also survives a June bug attack to discuss the recent call-ups of Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore, and how much of the Cards' 2022 season rides on the pitching staff's ability to answer the call. Also, The Salsa is back! The guys wrap this week's episode with a review of the Willow and Andor trailers, the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and "Pete's Picks" for movies now in theaters. Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 18 – A Long Weekend

    05/06/2022 Duration: 59min

June begins with an extended five-game series between the Cubs and Cards at Wrigley and the middle of the week delivered one of the best Star Wars episodes ever produced. Add in a phenomenal addition to the Top Gun story, and the month is off to a brilliant start. And yet, that wasn't the best thing to happen this week, as Nick Castellanos has done it again! • Season 6, Episode 16 – Bo Shuda

    16/05/2022 Duration: 53min

Three in a row? Pretty soon, The Team of Rivals is going to start sounding like they know what they're doing again. Ron, Elliott, and Pete get together on a Sunday night to talk about the Cubs' mid-table performance and rash of injuries, the Cardinals' continued offensive ineptitude (led by their once-promising young outfield), and the in-and-outs of Little League baseball. Don't miss the mid-show cameo from Jabba the Hutt! Follow us on Twitter, GETTR, and Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.

  • Season 6, Episode 15 - Cinco de Reds Suck Mayo

    07/05/2022 Duration: 01h25min

Pete, Ron and Elliott were back at it this week, and that's a first back to back with all three in over a month.   The Cubs suck. The Pirates suck. The Reds have gone full suck. The Cardinals are surviving much in the same way that have the last 3 years. Run prevention. Their offense is inconsistent, and several key position players are carrying some light bats so far.   May the 4th, came and went and there was another look at Kenobi that the guys discussed.
