Synopsis

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is a division of the Maryland Department of Transportation, and one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States. MTA operates Local and Commuter Buses, Light Rail, Metro Subway, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Train Service, and a comprehensive Paratransit (Mobility) system. MTA also manages the Taxi Access system, and directs funding and statewide assistance to Locally Operated Transit Systems (LOTS) in each of Marylands 23 counties, Baltimore City, Annapolis and Ocean City.

This family friendly event is one of the ways MDOT MTA shows it’s appreciate to the men and women who keep the buses moving. The winner of each group goes on to represent MDOT MTA in the International Bus and Maintenance Roadeo in Louisville, KY. Maryland Transit Times Ken Berger had a chance during the roadeo to interview several bus operators including this year’s bus operator winner Bennie Williams and maintenance team winners the Crossthreads ( Fred Clark, Jon Francis, and Doug Reed).

    Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show begins this Wednesday, October 3 and runs through Tuesday, October 9 at the Baltimore Inner Harbor. The new buses are lighter to help save fuel, have new safety features such as safe turn alert to inform pedestrians that the bus is turning and a new dashboard to help improve with maintenance. These new buses will replace some of the older models in the fleet and will have a life span of 12 years. We look forward to seeing the new buses on the road servicing our riders.
