Synopsis

Pain Reframed is a podcast about pain and how pain is managed in our society. Pain is a large issue right now and we will bring powerful and helpful insights on how we can manage pain in a much more efficient and effective way. Pain Reframed is committed to changing language and practice patterns across disciplines and points of care in order to reduce the unnecessary suffering that results from the propagation of misinformation, insufficient understanding of the pain experience, and the over-medicalization of pain in society. Dr. Tim Flynn and Dr. Jeff Moore will share their expertise, as well as the expertise from others in the medical and psychological fields, about pain management and our roles in dealing with pain. We want to create a sustainable, multi-disciplinary, international conversation on pain.

    04/10/2018 Duration: 29min

Today, we are looking at large data sets, from a population standpoint, asking if there are ways we can figure out why people actually seek out healthcare and solutions to their pain. We welcome Dr. Derek Clewley, from Duke University, who has been researching behavioral attributes towards healthcare services. His goal has been to use this information to predict healthcare utilization, which, of course, can help us to better understand and serve patients with persistent pain. Derek, Tim, and Jeff discuss Derek’s findings and how we can understand where the patient is coming from, what their expectations are, and what their experiences have been. They’ll discuss how we measure these findings and ensure we’re utilizing correct comparisons so we can best treat our patients. • 75: Top 5 Commonly Asked Questions from Patients

    13/09/2018 Duration: 41min

We have the top five commonly asked questions from patients today! Dr. Tim Flynn is out celebrating his 35th anniversary with his wife, so The Real Brian fills in to help Dr. Jeff Moore answer some of these commonly heard and very important questions that patients typically ask. Our discussion today culminates a lot what we talk about on Pain Reframed into one episode, hitting on some of the essentials! Are you guys saying that damaged structures in our body never cause pain? You hear that pain comes from the brain. How can I manage and even sort of control the pain with my mind? If the "issue isn't in the tissue" why do treatments that are directed towards the tissue often help temporarily? I’m wanting to take a more conservative approach to my treatment. How do I talk to my doctor if she seems biased towards medication and surgery? What are the best ways to exercise, move, strength-train, etc? 06/09/2018 Duration: 39min

Using words that help and not harm, for example. The goal is to keep the control in the patient’s hands, but yet to continue to arm them with the right information they need to achieve health and victory and prevent recurrence. The conversation today is fantastic. Megan, Tim, and Jeff discuss the massive message for each of us to first ask what we are doing and what our approach is. Non-pharmacological management is the FIRST step. Let’s get our patients healing correctly and fully!
