May 21 – July 1, 2022 The Yale Norfolk School of Art, established in 1948, is an intensive six week undergraduate summer residency program  for rising seniors. Byron Kim and Lisa Sigal, the Yale Norfolk School of Art co-directors, are pleased to announce the 2022 session will take place with consideration for the safety and health of the students, faculty, staff and the Norfolk community. At this time Yale Norfolk School of Art is moving forward with plans to accommodate 22 students who will live in cottages on The Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate (the campus) and work in the newly renovated Art Barn. Only students who are planning to graduate in 2023 are eligible to be nominated for the program. Students who will have graduated by 2022 are not eligible to apply. Students will follow a curriculum of Yale College art courses including Critical Studies, Advanced Image Making, and Senior Studio. Justin has maintained a diverse career working in the theatre industry for over three decades. He served as Executive Producer to The Group Theatre Too, a theatre collective in NYC, for 15 years producing the award-winning musical, Count To Ten at The New York Musical Festival, the revival of Michael Bennett’s Seesaw, and the Pulitzer-Prize nominated play, Album by David Rimmer. Other credits include: The Choreographer’s Canvas at the 92nd Street Y, The World Goes Round at Circle in the Square, and Song and Dance Men at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. Justin is an award-winning director and choreographer with credits including Crazy For You (Berkshire Theatre Award), Hairspray (Lincoln Center Award), Errol and Fidel (NYMF Award), Gypsy of the Year, and the Off-Broadway musical One Night With Fanny Brice. In 2019 he was the program advisor for Peridance’s Commercial Dance Program, and currently is co-director of the non-profit youth organization, New Generation Theatre, in Rockland County. Amanda is active on her family’s dairy farm with feeding and helping with calf care. A Cornell graduate, she served two years in the Peace Corps. Medical Equipment Loan Program If you need medical equipment, the UCC Medical Equipment Loan Program is here for you! We have a wide range of medical equipment to loan including wheelchairs, hospital beds, lift chairs, walkers, tub-transfer benches, shower seats and much, much more. Just call our program coordinator to discuss your needs and pickup arrangements. We ask that patrons pick up and drop off all equipment. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to find volunteers to transport the equipment. The program is free to everyone in Northwestern Connecticut and surrounding communities. TROUTBECK SYMPOSIUM April 28th - April 29th, 2022 The Troutbeck Symposium is a student-led collaboration uncovering our local history through student authored documentaries, art exhibitions and conversation. In continuation of the unique legacy of hosting creative thinkers and activists, it is with great pride that Troutbeck hosts the Troutbeck Symposium on April 28th and 29th – the culmination of a nearly year-long project involving over 150 local students from regional public, independent, middle and high schools. After months of investigation, students will present their historical research related to Troutbeck and the significant role the Spingarn Family played in the Civil Rights Movement and the Harlem Renaissance; revealing stories of famous and lesser-known activists, renewing significant but untold stories and narratives from this region all relating to our BIPOC community. The Hotchkiss concerts are finally resuming and opening to the public. The first major performance open to the general public will be on Saturday April 30 - the Hotchkiss Philharmonic will finally be on stage again welcoming a group of about 30 professional musicians from Hartford, Boston, and NY to join our most experienced students to form a large orchestra. The program consists of a Verdi overture, a Mozart Piano Concerto (with German pianist Andreas Frôlich flying from Cologne for this performance), and Beethoven’s beloved 7th symphony.
