The Rangers had the territorial advantage but the Panthers' pressure on NY had gotten to the point where New York was throwing pucks on net hoping it'd stick. Florida cashed in on a give-and-go by Evan Rodrigues and Sam Bennett after Jacob Trouba missed a hip check, allowed a quick rush to the net where Bennett scored bar down to make it 1-0 before the first period ended. Florida once again went into takeover mode where they started doing something they had done all series, control play. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday. The guys break down Florida's 3-2 win for the Panthers over the New York Rangers from Madison Square Garden to take a 3-2 series lead. The first period saw the Rangers getting the majority of the shots on net, but the Panthers getting more of the quality. Rangers were first to get on the scoresheet after Matthew Tkachuk turned the puck over on the PP and Chris Kreider got his goal of the series short handed. Florida would then score just over six minutes later after Gustav Forsling got through the Rangers defense in transition, his shot trickled off the left pad of Igor Shesterkin and off the crossbar and in to tie the game at one. The Cats would be the team in the third period to once again tilt the ice in their favor and they didn't stop after they killed off a penalty in the third where they had a hard time gaining the zone. Florida then go

  • Panthers Stuck To Who They Were, And It Paid Off. Series Tied Up at 2!

    29/05/2024 Duration: 34min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) to the show to break down the Panthers' 3-2 OT win over the New York Rangers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final from Amerant Bank Arena. The game saw the Cats come out on top 1:12 into the extra frame after Sam Reinhart delivered on a one-timer in a familiar spot to give the Cats the win and tie the series at 2. The Panthers did not get off to the best of starts as New York was dominating the pace of play in the first 20 minutes, and even took the lead going into the first intermission. After that, it was all Panthers where they got on the scoresheet three seconds after the power play expired thanks to Sam Bennett staying with the play after Igor Shesterkin was out of his net and Bennett hit the puck off the goaltender and in. Panthers cashed in on the power play in that period thanks to Carter Verhaeghe, where he batted the puck in to get the Panthers the lead at the time. Af

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@fjojr and @FLACatsHistory) to recap the Panthers' 5-4 overtime loss against the New York Rangers from Amerant Bank Arena. It's now the second straight game in which the Panthers lose in the extra frame (won 11 games in a row in OT prior to the last two). The Panthers controlled play once again on the night, but New York once again picked their spots to create mistakes into goals on the night, with untimely pinches, tip-in's, and New York's counter attack. Florida had six power play opportunities on the afternoon, where Sam Reinhart scored his first goal on the man advantage since Game 4 of Round One, then added another later in the first period. There was a missed opportunity for Florida when the Rangers Defenseman Jacob Trouba went to the box for two separate penalties. Although Trouba was not called for a 5-minute major, the 4-minute PP only saw one shot on goal,

  • Despite Some Controversy in Game 2 , The Panthers Return Home With A Split

    25/05/2024 Duration: 33min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers' 2-1 loss against the New York Rangers from Madison Square Garden. This was the Panthers' first loss in OT in the postseason since 2016. The Rangers came out with a big jump to start the game, which included a goal after a hit by Alexis Lafreniere on Verhaeghe which resulted in Vincent Trocheck converting off the turnover. Florida however weathered multiple storms as they doubled the amount of times they went to the box in game two, but still came of this one without giving up a goal on the power kill. New York had very little answers for Aleksander Barkov once again, and Gustav Forsling was a force on the penalty kill, especially when the Rangers were on a 4-on-3. Florida got their first power play goal since Game 4 of the previous series, breaking an 0-13 drought. Despite that, they have killed 24 of their last 25, so they have been able to keep the Rangers top performers in check. New

    23/05/2024 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday(on a Thursday) to break down the Panthers' 3-0 shutout win over the New York Rangers in Game 1 from Madison Square Garden. It was a near perfect game for the Cats as they suffocated the Rangers in their own end for most of the night. Florida was able to suppress shots once again that allowed Sergei Bobrovsky to leave his best for last. New York came into the series with the best power play in the postseason, but Florida stayed disciplined on the night where they went to the box only twice. Rangers tried different line combinations to try to create some type of spark but they could not get anything going. Florida broke through toward the end of the first period thanks to Matthew Tkachuk with a shot through a screen, where that ended up being the GWG. Florida didn't allow a shot by the Rangers for a 14-minute stretch in the second period that

The Panthers controlled play after they went on the penalty kill not allowing a shot for over 10 minutes, where we saw signs of game 4 for Florida where Boston scored first, but Florida kept coming in waves offensively. Boston had unforced errors where they went to the box for another too many men on the ice, their seventh in the postseason, and were denied a power play after an embellishment call. In the third period, Bruins kept icing the puck after multiple missed passes on their breakouts due to the Panthers' pressure on the forecheck. Florida tied the game at one th

    15/05/2024 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) to the show to recap Florida's 2-1 loss against the Boston Bruins in Game 5. The Panthers failed to match the Bruins' desperation as the Cats were held to four shots in the first period. Outside of the first line, the Panthers did not generate quality chances on the night and did not make Jeremy Swayman work. Florida did not get anything going until Head Coach Paul Maurice went on a profanity filled tirade on the Panthers bench during a TV timeout. Florida scored shortly after, but it was not enough to force overtime and now head back to Boston for game 6 on Friday night. The guys give their three duds of the game, the moment when they thought the game was lost, and what is their concern-o-meter at after game 5? We discuss this and more on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.

Lastly, game 5 is tonight and the Cats are 5-2 in closeout games since 2022, it's been a huge turnaround as South Florida sports fans could see three handshake lines in a series victory over the last two years. We discuss this and more on today's edition of the Locked on FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.

  • Panthers Composed After Bruins' Early Antics, Came Back In The Third To Take a 3-1 Series Lead

    13/05/2024 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked on FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@fjojr and @FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers' 3-2 comeback win in Boston to take a 3-1 series lead. The Bruins got up to a 2-0 lead, but despite that, the game never felt out of reach for the Panthers with the amount of high danger chances they had on Jeremy Swayman. Florida was winning their battles around the boards and with their fast puck movement, helped get to the net front where two out their three goals on the night came from. One of those goals included a very controversial goal on special teams thanks to Sam Bennett. The narrative prior to game 4 was about what Bennett did or didn't do to forward Brad Marchand in game three that had him as a scratch for Sunday's game. It made Bennett a huge target going into game 4. The two chat about what Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery said postgame on the Bennett's goal standing as Charlie Coyle collided with S

Their game from Game 2 carried over to game 3 as they took away the Bruins time and space and eliminated their speed through the neutral zone. They have continued to bounce on the Bruins giveaways and got to the net front once again. After having a drought on the power play (dating back to the regular season), the Panthers have scored five power play goals in the last two games, including four on Friday. Florida took control when they converted on both ends of a double minor where Mason Lohrei hit Steven Lorentz with a high stick. They have held Boston to 32 shots in the last two games. The guys discuss their three stars, when they thought the game w

Early signs of this game was very similar to game one as the Bruins were still winning their fair share of battles while forcing Florida to the perimeter. Florida had the territorial advantage and had one more power play than Boston after 20 minutes, where some might have thought, "How are the Panthers gonna get pucks past Swayman?" Well, the Panthers responded in the big way, and the fourth line set the tone on both the first Panthers goals, and the floodgates opened after that. Prior to the first intermission, Paul Maurice went back to his lines from the Tampa series and the Panthers showed a lot of jump. Second consecutive game in this series where the team that won also scored a goal prior to the second intermission: It took the air out of the building in game 1, while the building in Sunrise almost we
