Synopsis

The 1960s was a fascinating time in history... and a hugely interesting time in cinema. This podcast is a look back at the films of the past (beginning in the 60's)- one at a time. We're revisiting classics and we're also tackling some of those movies we always meant to watch but never did. Expect conversation about Kubrik, Hitchcock, Fellini, Disney and much much more. Each episode will also include some of our trademark features such as Recastarama (where we recast the film using current actors) and Who Am I (where we work out who we would be in the film).

    01/06/2024 Duration: 51min

In this episode- recorded late 2023- Paul and I once again discuss the work of Alfred Hitchcock with this this conversation on 'Rope', a film right up there with the best of Hitch's oeuvre.

  • 4- Late Spring (1940s)

    01/06/2024 Duration: 16min

In this episode- recorded last summer- I finally return to the wonderful world of 1940s cinema and- in particular- to the work of Yasujirō Ozu (the director of 'Tokyo Story') with a solo conversation about his 1949 film, 'Late Spring' (a film well worth watching, if you get the chance). And even though it's a short episode I find time to talk about a number of things but- in particualr- I look at this film from a queer perspective. I also have things to say about The Game of Life.

  • 54- Octopussy (1980s, James Bond #13)

    12/05/2024 Duration: 48min

Shaken AND stirred, Kieran, Paul and I are back once again to talk about James Bond with this week's episode on 'Octopussy'. A film, it's fair to say, we have many issues with. Oh, and after Paul has to depart, late in the episode, Kieran and I take stock of the rumours surrounding Aaron Taylor-Johnson maybe being the new 007.

  • 53- Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1980s)

    01/05/2024 Duration: 59min

In this episode- recorded right at the tail end of 2023- Campbell and I discuss cult horror film 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space', and dig deep into Campbell's childhood clown trauma which came as a result of seeing this movie at a young age.

  • 52- Cyndi Lauper: Girls Just Want to Have Fun & The Goonies 'R' Good Enough (1980s, Richard Donner #3)

    28/04/2024 Duration: 13min

In this short solo episode I discuss the music videos for 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' (directed by Edd Griles) and 'The Goonies 'R' Good Enough' (directed by Richard Donner) from pop superstar Cyndi Lauper. Because why not?

  • 51- Back to the Future & Back to the Future Part II (1980s)

    27/04/2024 Duration: 02h51min

Great Scott! In this episode of the podcast- fittingly- we travel back in time to 2015 and 2016 for two conversations originally recorded for my original podcast, the SpielbergPod.  These two conversations are on 'Back to the Future' (with my good friend Jake) and 'Back to the Future Part II' (with my equally excellent pal Paul).  And the three of us have a lot of love for these brilliant movies.

  • 50- The Fox and the Hound (1980s, Disney #18)

    21/04/2024 Duration: 42min

In this episode Paul and I pick back up with our ongoing DIsney coverage with a discussion on 'The Fox and the Hound'. We also pause to say goodbye to Carl Weathers (we recorded this the week he died) and to share our thoughts on hunting, particularly fox hunting (spoiler: we're not fans).

  • 49- Hellraiser (1980s)

    07/04/2024 Duration: 01h22min

This episode- recorded somewhen in 2023- Paul, Kieran and I open the puzzle box that is 1987's 'Hellraiser', the iconic horror from Clive Barker.

  • 48- For Your Eyes Only (1980s, James Bond #12)

    01/04/2024 Duration: 01h03min

Since it's a Bank Holiday in the UK, it seems 100% appropriate for us to return to James Bond franchise today (because- historically- they would always seem to show the films on terrestrial TV on a Bank Holiday) with a conversation between Kieran, Paul and myself on 'For Your Eyes Only' which we recorded in late 2022. A note for historians- Liz Truss was a famously short-lived British Prime Minister in 2022 (she lasted seven weeks in Number 10, though during most of that time the place was shut due to the death of Queen Liz). Oh, and Paul mentions a couple of times a podcast he and I recorded on 'Casino Royal'. In case you wondered if you'd missed this episode, well, you haven't as we never did an episode on that film but I'd love to talk about the '06 'Casino Royal' (the '67 version, not so much) so Paul- call me!

  • 47- Blackadder: The Cavalier Years (1980s)

    24/03/2024 Duration: 21min

Off with your head. Dance til you're dead. In this episode Paul and I continue our ongoing Blackadder coverage, by discussing the show's 1989 Red Nose Day special. And since the special is only about 15 minutes long, we also find the time to discuss how we feel about the British royal family, in particular King Prince Charles...

  • 46- The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi (1980s)

    23/03/2024 Duration: 03h18min

This week's episode was recorded a long time ago (2015) in a galaxy far, far away (Wood Green, North London). What we have here is two Star Wars conversations- with Paul and I discussing 'The Empire Strikes Back' and me and Jev talking about 'Return of the Jedi'- originally released on my OG podcast, the SpielbergPod. And listening back to these, 2015 was an interesting time to be a Star Wars fan as we are all eagerly awaited the release of 'The Force Awakens' and the start of the sequel trilogy (oh, what a journey we were about to begin...).

  • 45- The King of Comedy (1980s, Martin Scorsese #7)

    17/03/2024 Duration: 47min

In this episode- recorded all the way back in 2022 ("The best things come to those who wait" - Heinz Ketchup) - Kieran and I discuss the Martin Scorsese film, 'The King of Comedy', following Kieran's first-time watch of this. You can expect comparisons to 'Taxi Driver' and even more comparisons to 'Joker' from Todd Phillips.

  • 44- Milky Way: Red Car Blue Car (1980s)

    10/03/2024 Duration: 21min

In this episode- again from our Boxing Day recording sesh- Lee, Amanda and I discuss the iconic 'the red car and the blue car had a race' commercial for mid-tier chocolate bar Milky Way. As you would imagine, we spend most of the episode discussing chocolate bars we like/ dislike.

    10/03/2024 Duration: 18min

    23/02/2024 Duration: 01h12min

This week Easy Riders Raging Podcast reaches it's landmark 300th episode!!! And to celebrate, my co-host Paul and I are discussing Bruce Robinson's cult classic, 'Withnail and I'. You can expect a lot of quotes (it's a very quotable film) and lots of anecdotes from our past. Here's to the next 300!

  • 41- Prince of Darkness (feat. The GenX Show, 1980s, John Carpenter #4)

    11/02/2024 Duration: 01h14min

In this episode, recorded back in December, I was delighted to be joined by Jeff Morton- host of the fantastic The GenX Show- to discuss the life and career of filmmaker John Carpenter, with particular focus on his 1987 film, 'Prince of Darkness'. This was a great opportunity to continue our ongoing look at Carpenter's movies (we have covered several of his films at this point) and it was great to finally sit down and record an episode with Jeff. I've no idea why we didn't do this sooner but I look forward to bringing him back again for another chat. Up next: Episode 300!

  • 40- The Human League: Don't You Want Me (1980s)

Recorded live and in-person in my living room, this episode sees Dan (NEW GUEST KALXON!!!), Jake, Kieran, Paul and I coming up with mixtape playlists for our favourite 1980s songs, in the style of a fantasy draft.

  • 39- 'Allo 'Allo!: The British Are Coming (1980s, British sitcoms #1)

    20/01/2024 Duration: 31min

In this episode, recorded live and in person on Boxing Day 2023, I discuss the pilot episode of British sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!- 'The British Are Coming'- with my sister Amanda and my brother Lee (this, his first appearance on ERRP, I believe), as part of our ongoing sitcom coverage.
