Synopsis

My name is Ina Wroldsen and I am in your ear to tell you about HEX The Podcast.Ill be talking to you about myself, my creative process and what inspired my new EP, which is also called HEX. This solo project of mine has been a long time coming. I grew up behind the scenes, where, for the past 10 years, I made a career writing music and lyrics for other artists.I got to dive undisturbed into the art of song writing, work with such talented people and experience both failings and success, all the while being completely invisible to the public eye and I wouldnt change it for anything. However, this podcast isnt about what I did, its about what I am going to do...I have always been into bodies of work. I like stories and I think that was my biggest challenge when I was working full time as a songwriter, I simply couldnt tell my whole story without total honesty and control. HEX is the first attempt at making a body of work in in the way that I like them and I wanted to make this podcast to tell you about what went on inside my head when I was thinking up these songs this whole idea of HEX really.I read all the time. Reading is good for thinking. Reading is my escape from reality.I particularly love reading history and Folklore, it has always been a great interest of mine. Whilst folklore isnt considered History per se, in 12th century Norway, we had actual written laws regarding folklore characters like trolls. It didnt matter if the trolls were real, because peoples fear of them was real. The HEX EP has 4 songs and each song has been given a character from Scandinavian folklore, each character was at some point in time conjured from human fear. I have played around with them and tried to renew the phobia they represent by placing them in our modern society, but you cant really modernise fear. Because fear changes nothing but the shape of its exterior. At its base, it is as merciless, mind crippling and blinding as it has always been.Im looking forward to taking you on the journey of HEX with me.

  • Mine

    05/07/2018 Duration: 21min

“MINE” is a devious word. Its small, narrow and kind of petty. It can be devastating when used in the wrong way. It’s a word that describes something that we are not really willing to share. It’s a word that brings me back to school and child play, a word that symbolises complete ownership. It’s a word we all use way too much, without even realising the power behind those four little letters. MINE. I wrote the song MINE about my husband Mark. The Scandinavian folklore character, Huldra, is beautiful temptress who lives amongst the trees, luring unsuspecting boys and men away from their families just so she can keep them and make them hers. She symbolises the gap that separates you from what used to be yours. This is why Huldra is a perfect analogy for MINE.The word “Mine” is a basic lie. Nothing really belongs to us. Mine is a man made concept.MINE from the HEX EP is out nowTrack: https://smarturl.it/IW_MineMusic Video: https://smarturl.it/InaWroldsenMineVideo See acast.com/privacy for privacy and op

  • Remember Me

    18/05/2018 Duration: 17min

Remember Me is a song about being haunted. In my case I was being chased down by dreams that I tried to bury...thing about burying dreams though, is that they don’t die. Because Remember Me was based almost entirely on my sub conscience, I thought it fitting to use Nattmara as the character for the music video for the track.Nattmara, or the mare, is a demonic character deriving from germanic folklore, found in different shapes or forms, all over the world. The mare comes to helpless humans at night while you dream, sits on their chest, touches her forehead to yours and literally rides you in to the darkness.Nattmara is the nightmare.Remember Me is out now! • SEA

    08/05/2018 Duration: 18min

The sea was both my first love and my first fear. The ocean first showed me how powerful she is when I was just five years old - I nearly lost my life to her back then. It was the start of a lifelong fascination, fear and love with the sea, which I have personified in my music.I wrote my record Sea after a night on the roof of my house. As I looked out on to the moonlit ocean, I was gripped by this feeling of being home and completely at peace. I got this weird sensation of belonging, like I could never really live or breathe without the sea. Not only was this hugely inspiring but it made it so clear to me why the sea and water spirits are one of the biggest players when it comes to common worldwide folklore. The Nøkken is a Scandinavian take on the water spirit that has haunted waters and lakes for centuries and most countries have a similar phenomenon of their own. The Nøkken is both lethal and unreliable, much like the water. We conjure up entities with the same characteristics as the matters we're att
