Movie Mount Rushmore

In honour of Avengers: Endgame (seriously... how many times have we written that recently?), and it's tremendous success in becoming the 2nd most successful film of all time - at the time of writing this, it may be #1 at the time of reading - we thought it appropriate to honour epic movies with epic runtimes. This week we are counting down the TOP Movies that have a runtime of 3 hours or movie. From classics like Lawrence of Arabia and Spartacus to modern epics like Lord of the Rings to brilliant dramas like The Green Mile, this is an aptly long episode to reflect the length of these brilliant movies.SPOILER ALERT: the episode opens with a few spoilers about Avengers Endgame, so please fast forward to 20 mins if you still haven't seen it.

We've done it movie fans! We've made it to 50 EPISODES!!! Half a century of edutainment, 50 episodes of movie talk, hours of fun between Anthony "AJ" Jordan and Nico Lurot, The Silver Screen Dudes. Way back on our first episode, we did the TOP 10 Movies Iconic to 90's kids, and we thought we would put a spin on that. We're counting down the TOP 10 Movies of the 90's but there's a twist: we can only pick one movie from each year (1990-1999). Hands down, this is the hardest thing we have ever done, and we've loved it. The Movie Mount Rushmore Podcast will not be slowing down, we've got plans to do way more on our Instagram account (just search Silver Screen Dudes), and we're looking to partner up with some big fish here in the UK. Ok, ok, we may be a bit late on this one, but we finally managed to get around to seeing Hellboy (and it's definitely worth a watch!), so we thought, in honour of HellBoy why not count down the TOP 10 Movies based on Graphic Novels. From Frank Miller's epics like Sin City and 300, to movies you bet you didn't even know were based on Graphic Novels like Road to Perdition and Edge of Tomorrow, and not forgetting Matthew Vaughan's foray into the world of Graphic Novel Adaptations with flicks like Kingsman and Kick-Ass, this is a list that's sure to get your heart pumping with excitement!

In honour of absolutely nothing other than the fact that we wish to do this (forgive us guys, we can't make it relevant every week, but we will always make it fun), the Silver Screen Dudes are counting our TOP 10 Guilty Movie Pleasures. Nowhere to run here: you will find out the 10 movies that we realise are objectiveky bad (and sometimes terrible), but we love anyway. Movies are subjective, but we do realise that we have no leg to stand on here. We know these movies are bad, we're not attempting to defend them, but we are being honest when we say we love them! In honour of the imminent release of Avengers: EndGame, and what could be his last role as Iron Man, we are honouring the career of the wonderful and charismatic Robert Downey Jr, and counting down his TOP 10 M0vies and Performances. From cult-noire films like Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, to brilliant comedies like Tropic Thunder, dramatic powerhouse performances like in The Judge and his Oscar nominated turn in Chaplin, it's no wonder most film buffs hail Downey Jr as a genius and a true thespian! Thanks for the last 10 years as Tony Stark, thanks for all the brilliant roles you've done, and long may your career continue. Robert Downey Jr, we salute you!

In honour f the release of Dumbo, we're going a bit left field. Seems every we look online this week, it's countdowns of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton (both worthy of course), but on this occasion we want to honour the real star of the movie: the Animal! :)So this week, the Silver Screen Dudes are counting down the TOP 10 movies about Animals, with a small caveat: No animations as we thought it would be too easy. From B-movie brilliance like Congo and Kujo, to ground breaking epics like Jurassic Park, to family adventures like Babe & Homeward Bound, and let us not forget hidden gems like The Ghost & the Darkness. A massive congrats to our Instagram winner @currymonsterlee who not only won our recent Instagram contest, and a great prize, but also selected this epically brilliant topic for us to comb over.This allowed us t really get our critical hats on and think about who in the industry, people don't appreciate enough (and there are many, including an under-rated actor we believe should be the next Wolverine - yes, REALLY!), and also tear apart those who have an undeserved reputation (subjectively speaking of course). Also, for the firs time in Silver Screen Dudes history, this list has allowed us to talk about an individual we both DESPISE, one whom we both believe is hands down the most over-rated waste of space in the industry. We promised we would never talk about him, but there's a first time for everything, and this list was the perfect moment.So who is being over looked and under-loved? Welcome to the latest edition of the Movie Mount Rushmore. This week, in honour of How To Train Dragon 3, we are counting down the TOP 10 Dreamworks movies. While many (including one of our hosts, Nico Lurot) believe this to be the "lesser" brand when compared to Pixar, there are some undisputed gems in Dreamworks' portfolio. Big IPs like Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon and Madagascar, to lesser know titles like Bee Movie and Mega Mind. And let's not forget some of the brilliant pre-CG animated Movies like Anastasia, The Prince of Egypt and Rpad to El Dorado. Yes, they may not be Pixar, but they are not to be overlooked! It's Oscar Weekend. Normally we would be incredibly excited for this once a year movie event, but with all the ridiculous ness surrounding the Oscars this year (notably the weird initial decision to omit Editing and Cinematography from being televised), we've actually decided to put a bit of a negative spin on this episode.We're counting down the TOP 10 Oscar Snubs. Now of course there have been waaaaay too many snubs to confine it all just to one list so, we are going to focus on the major categories (best actor/actress, best director, best film). In honour of the release of Glass, we are counting down the TOP 10 Samuel L. Jackson. Arguably the most famous actor in Hollywood, Mr Jackson really has done it all, from Anime like the Incredibles, Big Blockbusters like Kingsman and Star Wars, fantastic Indie flicks like Pulp Fiction and even some highly entertaining B-Movies like Snakes on a Plane. While not always of the highest quality (his words, not ours), there's no denying that he has an extensive and frankly intimidating film portfolio! In honour of the (UK) release of the Upside which for some reason didn't release on these shores until this year despite being two years old (!!!), the Silver Screen Dudes are counting down the TP 10 Remakes of Foreign films. As you may already know, the Upside is in fact a remake of French film called les Intouchables. Big disclaimer for this list: at no point are we suggesting that the movies that make our list are in any way better than their foreign counterparts, but what we are saying is that these ones are actually good - because let;s face it, when Hollywood tries to remake foreign cinema, most of the time the results are far from watchable!Side note also, we hope that you will be surprised and "edutained" by some of our entries. There are some golden classics in here and we bet many of you may not be aware that they are in fact remakes!!So sit back, relax and be prepared for edutainment as we blow the lid off some of the best remakes of Foreign films (that you hopefully didn't even know were remakes!!

In honour of the release of Dragon Ball Z: Broly, the Silver Screen Dudes thought we'd put a spin on the Animated Genre, and count down the TOP 10 Non-Disney, Non-Comic Book, and Non-CG Animated Movies. Yes, we do know of course that Dragon Ball is a beloved Manga, but thought this would be a fund list for our listeners none the less. It's the most wonderful time of the year, so of course tis the season to count down our TOP 10 Christmas Movies. There are a few startling omissions, so hot debates (are they, aren't they christmas flicks?), some comedies and some all round feel good amazing christmas movies. Sit back and listen to our rundown of some top St Nick Flicks!

This week, we are not doing our list "in honour" of anything in particular. We were actually left scratching our heads about what to do as the festive season is not quite on us, Oscar season is not quite on us, what to do, what to do...? So the 1 AJ (one half of the Silver Screen Dudes) decided that since the other half of the dudes had just got engaged, it was the perfect time to do Alternative Comedies (???). The logic was that by Alternative, it gave us a strong emphasis on wedding or wedding related comedies, but since we hadn't seen enough to make up a list of 10, the caveat was alternative comedies. So if you like things such as The Hangover and Bridesmaids, you'll love this list!
