Then, the bad film is the infamous cult so-bad-it's-good film The Room from writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wiseau. Along with these two features, our duo discusses Eminem related expectations in cinema, the vampiric finances of Tommy Wiseau and our picks for next week's episode on Best Picture Winners. • 40: Jim Carrey in I Love You, Number 23

    05/02/2019 Duration: 01h09min

25 years ago this week, Jim Carrey kicked off his stardom with one of the most insanely successful years for any comedy star. In 1994, he appeared in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, three of the most successful comedies of the decade.  So, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are celebrating that banner year's anniversary with a Jim Carrey double feature. First up, the good film is the massively underrated dramedy I Love You Phillip Morris, which our boys argue is Carrey's best performance. Then, the bad feature is The Number 23, Carrey's first attempt at a thriller which... isn't as well received. Our boys discuss the memory retention of saxophones, ponder who should have played Dr. Eggman and pick the two films for next week! Listen in on all the smokin' action right here! • 39: Avatar of the Hunter - Overrated vs. Underrated

    29/01/2019 Duration: 01h08min

While the picks on Double Edged Double Bill tend to be subjective, we've reached a new level with this week's episode. Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani have each picked a film they consider overrated and underrated respectively. The first film is Thomas' underrated film The Night of the Hunter, the 1955 thriller that inspired many a filmmaker yet isn't well known by the general public. Then, the discussion turns to Adam's overrated pick Avatar, the massive highest grossing movie of all time... that's left little cultural impact. Plus, where RL Stine ripped off his story structure, the supervillain origin story of James Cameron and our picking for next week's episode! Listen in here to determine if this show is underrated or overrated. Hell, we'd be surprised if it was rated in the first place! • 38: Star Trek - Wrath of Generations

    22/01/2019 Duration: 01h14min

This week, our captains Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are going where no man has gone before: the Star Trek film franchise! Alright, plenty of Trekkers have been here before, but not our intrepid crew of the USS Double Edged Double Bill! Beaming aboard is returning guest and actual Trekker Kaycee Jarrard who will school Adam and Thomas as they venture into this double bill. First is the good feature Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which may be so good that it broke the potential of all Trek films to follow. Then, our bad feature is Star Trek Generations which brought Captains Kirk and Picard on screen together to... mixed results. Plus, crying over uniform adjustment, questions about Picard's love of Dickensian children and our picks for next week! Engage with us here! • 37: M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable Earth

    15/01/2019 Duration: 01h20min

As Glass hurtles towards theaters this week, writer/director M. Night Shyamalan is earning the greatest honor of his near three decades as a filmmaker. That's right; being the subject of a Double Edged Double Bill episode! Adam and Thomas are joined by make up artist and film fan Whitney Collazo to dissect two films from the infamous auteur. First, our good feature is the understated superhero origin story Unbreakable, which started the train that lead to Split and Glass. Then, our bad feature is After Earth, which sent the Will Smith and Jaden Smith train off the rails. Plus, the joys of subtle Samuel L. Jackson, what it feels like to be "DENIED" and our picking for next week's episode at the tail end! • 36: Torque of God - Coming This January

    08/01/2019 Duration: 01h06min

January is a glum time, especially at the theater. The first calendar month of the year gets a bad reputation as a dump month and with good reason. Movie studios celebrate the new year by releasing their worst leftover films into theaters. Yet, a few gems do slip through the cracks. That's why our latest Double Edged Double Bill is all about films released in January. Our good feature is City of God, the multiple Oscar nominated sprawling coming of age crime film that dramatizes the lethal criminal underground of the slums in Rio. Our bad feature is Torque, a parody and/or rip off of Fast and the Furious where we're not sure who is in on the joke. It's hard to tell the difference, ain't it? Well, tune in now for Ice Cube's anguish, an elaborate John Travolta discussion and our picks for next week's episode! • 35: Blindspotting the Venom of 2018

    01/01/2019 Duration: 01h26min

Happy New Year! As we ring in 2019, it's still important to look back a bit at 2018. Specifically, the great and not-so-great films of the year. Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are joined by returning guest Yonathan Habtemichael to discuss two notable films from the year on the latest Double Edged Double Bill. Our good feature is the underrated indie dramedy Blindspotting and the other is the mega hit Marvel blockbuster Venom. Very different films with more similarities than you'd think. Both take place in Northern California, both deal with protagonists suppressed by systems outside of their control and both focus on the duality of man. However, Blindspotting doesn't have Daveed Diggs bite into a live lobster and Venom doesn't feature Tom Hardy freestyling. Still, there's plenty of parallels to draw while our trio discusses other hits & misses of the year and picks their double feature for next week. Listen now to find out! • 34: Fatal Goldmember

    23/12/2018 Duration: 01h14min

Double Edged Double Bill is getting super serious about silliness for the last episode of 2018! Adam Thomas, Thomas Mariani and returning guest Heather Thomas are here to laugh with and at two spoof films in "honor" of the Will Ferrell vehicle Holmes and Watson in theaters! First up is our good feature Fatal Instinct, where comedy legend Carl Reiner takes the early 90s erotic thriller genre down a peg. Then our trio settles in for the bad feature Austin Powers In Goldmember, where Mike Myers mugs as four characters for the third entry in the comedy franchise. All this plus a rare humble Beyonce, a dissection of Armand Assante's comedic potential and the introduction of a format change for the show! So hold onto your golden keys and listen in! 18/12/2018 Duration: 01h25min

Welcome back to another Double Edged Double Bill, old chums! In honor of the release of Aquaman this week, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are doing an episode on DC Comics adaptations... but mostly Batman. Yes, the luck of the Double Edged Double Bill ended up in The Caped Crusader's favor and our returning guest Scott Johnson is joining our Justice League of Discussion! Our good feature is the 1993 film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which our trio of heroes dares to say is perhaps the best Batman film ever! Meanwhile at the Legion of Doom, the podcast powered titans have a rousing battle over our "bad" feature The Dark Knight Rises, the contentious capper to the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy which results in the most divisive discussion on the show yet! So tune into this Bat Channel at the soonest Bat Time to find out where these superheroes fall in the grand scheme of things. Thanks to Sam Brutuxan for the intro assist! • 32: Clint Eastwood's Every Which World But Perfect

    11/12/2018 Duration: 01h22min

Do you feel lucky, punks? Well then, why not press your luck with the latest episode of Double Edged Double Bill? This week in honor of the release of The Mule, we're doing an episode all about it's writer/star Clint Eastwood. Known for his tough guy roles and efficient directorial style, Clint Eastwood is cinematic icon who - for better or for worse - is still making films at age 88. Now, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani look into two very different movies of his career with their most recurring guest host Sam Brutuxan! First up, our good feature is the 1993 crime film A Perfect World which Eastwood directed and co-starred in alongside Kevin Costner. Then, our bad feature is the 1978 "comedy" Every Which Way But Loose which Eastwood didn't direct but did co-star alongside an orangutan. Same diff? Listen to find out! • 31: Slay That Christmas Music, Otter Boy

    04/12/2018 Duration: 01h06min

Happy Holidays, everyone! December is here and we've got a double header about as odd as a grab bag stocking on this week's Double Edged Double Bill. First up as our good feature is the 1977 Jim Henson Christmas special Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. Then, our bad feature is the 2005 horror comedy film Santa's Slay starring wrestler Bill Goldberg as a killer Santa Claus. Yeah, it may be our strangest double feature yet. Singing furry animals and "funny" Christmas themed kills abound. Tis the season? Listen here with bells on! • 30: Joe Dante's Looney Tunes Back In The Burbs

    27/11/2018 Duration: 01h08min

Joe Dante has been making genre pictures for over forty years. In honor of his birthday this week, Double Edge Double Bill hosts Thomas Mariani and Adam Thomas are taking a look at two films in his storied filmography. Our good feature his underrated 1989 comedy The Burbs, wherein Tom Hanks leads a gang of wacky neighbors to find out the mysteries of the new weirdos next door. Then, our bad feature is Dante's 2003 film Looney Tunes: Back In Action, which studio meddling turned from potentially great madcap adventure into an uneven mess. All this and the question of what "body dialogue" will be revealed by listening in here! • 29: Rocky V. The Natural: Double Bill of the Century

    20/11/2018 Duration: 01h10min

Grab your hot dogs and six pack for the big game! With Creed II coming out this week, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are doing a double bill of sports films! Even if our duo aren't huge sports people, they love a good sports film. For this week, that good film is the seminal baseball drama The Natural, which basically feels like the superhero origin film for a master of America's past time. Then in this corner, our fighters slug it in the ring with their bad boxing film Rocky V, the absolute low for the beloved sports franchise. Even after fighting wrestlers & giving robots away as gifts, Rocky Balboa hits a new low with this initial attempt at a finale. Thank God Creed came along. So sit in the stadium and listen to the amazing acoustics here! Thanks to Dan Chambos for the intro for this episode. This week we're doing a double header of fantasy films, given Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to come out! Guest and fan of the show Dan Chambos joins Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani to look at films about magical realms. First, 1988's Willow where George Lucas rips himself off and gets the dynamic team up of Val Kilmer & Warwick Davis to keep it all together. Then, our hosts try to survive as 1987's Masters of the Universe drags us from Eternia and into Skeletor's hammy grasp. Listen to all this fantastical madness here! 06/11/2018 Duration: 01h10min

Need a Coen fix? We got you, Brothers. In honor of  The Ballad of Buster Scruggs coming to Netflix soon, Double Edged Double Bill is doing an episode about the Coen Brothers. Our good feature is 1991's Barton Fink, in which every genre blends together as a writer gets writer's block. Our bad feature is their 2004 remake of The Ladykillers, which may not be as bad as some say, though it leaves a lot to be desired. Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani appreciate all of the Coen Brothers nuances displayed in both films, but also examine how Joel and Ethan have evolved and even stayed stagnant in their careers. Listen here for all a cacophony of Coens discussions, guys! Special thanks to our guest Shakyl Lambert for the intro assist. • 26: The Haunting of The Crazies House

    30/10/2018 Duration: 01h20min

For the final horror themed episode of October, Double Edged Double Bill is delving into horror remakes. With the new Suspiria closing in on release, Adam, Thomas and special guest Shakyl Lambert take a look at how right and how... not so right a horror remake can go. First up is 2010's The Crazies, a remake of George A. Romero's 1973 film that pulled out all the stops to improve on what the master attempted before. Then our trio slogs through 1999's The Haunting, the blasphemous redo of the 1963 classic that stands as the poster child for what not to do when remaking a horror film. Plus, there's mention of a few other favorites, musings on who the real mastermind behind Michael Eisner's Disney era was and many Owen Wilson impressions to be heard. And you can listen to it all here. Oh wow! Special thanks to Scott Crawford of The Podcast By The Cemetery for the intro assist. Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. THIS is Double Edged Double Bill! Our latest episode features Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani going head to head on a double feature of films directed by Sam Raimi! Raimi is best known as the man who revolutionized horror with The Evil Dead trilogy and opened the door for superhero films with his Spider-Man trilogy, but Adam, Thomas and special guest Scott Crawford of The Podcast By The Cemetery are covering two of his more obscure films. First, Raimi's return to horror from 2009 Drag Me To Hell, where Sam traded in his spider suit for an elderly lady's schall and flying dentures. Then, we go back to Mr. Raimi's first stab at the superhero genre with 1990's Darkman. Liam Neeson has an identity crisis with a variety of realistic masks and our hosts are divided on whether or not that's a good thing. Listen to them duke it out here! Joining hosts Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani this week is special guest Lance Langford from The Horror Returns Podcast! The trio's good feature this week is 2009's Pontypool, an underrated gem of the sub genre in which a shock jock DJ comes face to face with zombies who are turned by way of the English language. Then, their bad feature is the late great George A. Romero's less-than-great 2008 film Diary of the Dead. A found footage zombie film that dares to ask "How unlikeable and unengaging can we make our protagonists?" Sink your teeth into the latest episode to find out!
