Dick Mudry, longtime golf writer including copy writer for the Masters Annual and longtime friend of Arnold Palmer reflects on Arnold passing away. Dick shares some of his personal stories with Arnold going back to the 1960's and comments on the impact Arnold Palmer has had across the world.Emily shares stories from the 1990's when Arnold played in the Mauna Lani Senior Skins each year, designed Hapuna Golf Course with his partner Ed Seay and played in the MasterCard Championship at Hualalai, now the PGA Champions Tour Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. The Detroit Historical Museum Michigan Humane Society exhibits runs through Sunday October 9. Peter Poulos, Michigan Humane Society Community Engagement Manager gave me a tour and shared some stories about the Michigan Humane Society exhibit in the Community Gallery. Peter shares the history of the MHS, what they do and how we can each be a part of all the good things they do to protect animals, find good homes and provide some vet services.Peter talks about the recent Grand Opening of the new Michigan Humane Society facility in the New Center area in Detroit. I was walking thru the Detroit Historical Museum when Wendy Rose Bice, and Gail Greenberg said hello and asked me if I was Emily Gail. I share some shares talk stories from the recent USGA US Amateur at Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Hills near my home town Detroit. My first guests are long time friends who I had not seen for a long time. This is from June 11, 2016 ... it was the Detroit Historical Museum and Detroit Historical Society 150 year celebration for Vernors. It was the end of the day and several thousand of us were outside in the courtyard of the Detroit Historical Museum to give open our can of Vernors they had handed out to all of us, take that first Vernors swig and give a Vernors toast to the wonderful day of celebration. Grant Miller, Bike Works talks about all the trail cutting they are doing in Kaloko on the Big Island. Anyone can participate. the photo is from a recent work day. Check out Bike Works facebook pages for updates.We start off with Grant and I talking about the evolution of mountain biking with the Specialized Turbo Levo pedal assisted electric mountain bike. Grant explains that while you have to pedal to get pedal assisted with the Specialized Turbo Levo that is what really increases the fun factor for every level of rider. Emily shares her experience riding the Levo and how she was able to ride on terrain that would normally be to difficult for her level of riding. The Levo is a great equalizer so all levels of riders can ride together. Grant also talks about the Hawaii Cycling Club Sea to Stars road race presented by Bike Works which starts at Waikoloa Road and ends near the Visitor Information Center on Mauna Kea. I left the chatter before we started the talk in because I felt it is indicative of the spirit of the evening. Once we got started thanks to all who shared their stories from the those days in the 70's-80's with the Emily Detroit Runs, Emily's Across the Street, their love of Detroit and how they continue to share and live the "say nice things about Detroit" attitude we started back in 1979 through their own efforts then and now. Jocelyn Rainey, is the Curator of Exhibitions Detroit Repertory Theatre Gilda Snowden Gallery. Jocelyn an award–winning artist and dean of arts instruction at Wayne County Community College District tells why she wanted Bruce Giffin's "Face of Detroit" photo exhibit to be on exhibit during Repertory Performances of "Homeless and How We Got that Way" which runs thru Sunday June 26. I was pleased that Bruce came by my Detroit Urban Consulate Parlor Talk and I told him I planned to go see the exhibit. Then I asked him if he would go with me and tell me about it. We went to the Rep Theatre on a Sunday. It was a packed house for the play "Homeless and How We Got There". Bruce walked me around the exhibit sharing touching backstories of those in the photos. I attended my first Detroit Urban Consulate Parlor Talk in June 2016 to hear Marsha Music. I was going to be giving a Parlor Talk the following week and felt this would be an opportunity for me to meet Marsha Music as  I have enjoyed seeing and hearing her virtually . I also wanted to get a feel for the setting at the Urban Consulate in preparing for my own Parlor Talk the next week.I was overcome with a sense of joy, melancholy, gratitude, optimism, reality, and so many emotions all wrapped up in my response to what Marsha shared ... perhaps most of all the unexpected warm and heartfelt welcome she gave me when she saw I was  there to hear her speak. I did not know Marsha personally and had no idea she knew me.  I knew that night when Marsha spoke to me from her heart I was home. Detroiter Joe Maher, like myself is a Detroit Tigers fan. He also is very knowledgable about the Negro Leagues and the Detroit Stars who were in the Negro League. He shares stories about Jackie Robinson, Detroit Stars Norman "Turkey" Stearnes and other notable Afro-American players.Ellen Hill Zerenque, Tigers VP of Marketing is proud of the tribute held each year at Tiger Stadium in honor of the Detroit Stars which I will have an opportunity to attend. Toni Romp-Friesen and Greta Friesen talk about the Hawaii Cycling Club Century Ride on Sunday April 3 that will benefit Hospice of Kona. Toni is a seasoned cyclist and Greta is a new cyclist. They share why this is a fun event for all levels of riders and a heartwarming event cause it brings out families who have been touched by Hospice services.This is a non-competitive ride that starts and finishes at Spencer Beach. Cyclists have the choice of three routes: 30, 60 or 109 miles. Exceptional lunch will be available at the end. Aid stations approximately every 20 miles.
