  • Dr Sohère Roked | Top tips for Understanding Your Hormones.

    06/08/2017 Duration: 01h17min

One of the shows that has been most requested by listeners is all things hormones so I asked Sohère Roked, a GP and Bio-identical and Integrative Medical Specialist, if she would talk to me and shed a little light on what is a pretty complicated subject. Sohère talks about the frustrating experiences she had with female patients who would come in saying they didn't 'feel right' but whose blood tests would return with normal results leaving them at a total dead end. Sohère realised there was a very strong link between hormones and our general well-being and how even a small imbalance can contribute to feeling under par.  In this conversation we talk about how you should be feeling during your menstrual cycle, in terms of what's normal or to be expected, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), why a 360 approach to wellness is vital and why knowing yourself and how you feel is something we should all be checking in with.  We also tackle the sticky topic of the cost involved with deep-diving into your hormones, the

  • Claire Coleman | Top tips for understanding the science in beauty.

    23/07/2017 Duration: 01h12min

Claire Coleman (@featuresjourno/@featuresjourno) is a writer who, if you listen to the show regularly, will have heard referenced as a 'forensic beauty journalist' who loves nothing more than getting her teeth stuck into a clinical trial.  As people who write about beauty we sit in the space between brands and the consumer offering an objective point of view about what a brand is up to in order to better help you make good decisions about how to spend your money. Claire's approach is to listen to what the brands have to say, but also by deep-dive into the independent data, clinical trials and by doing her own research into ingredients, innovations and developments. She does not care for fluff and nonsense and in this episode I ask her about her approach to writing about products, what she looks for from brands, what products, ingredients and innovations she thinks are worth paying attention to and what you should flat-out not get duped by. Take her on her word, she's very happy for you to tweet her @featuresj

  • Chloe Brotheridge | Tips for Recognising and Overcoming Anxiety.

    21/05/2017 Duration: 01h07min

Anxiety affects nearly a quarter of the population and as it's a topic that has come up more than once during podcasts with my guests I felt it was time to dig a little deeper into the topic. While it's completely normal to experience anxiety you may not be aware that you have it. Instead you may feel as though you're just highly stressed, a bit hormonal or just going through a rough patch. I've spoken on this podcast before about anxiety with guests including Luke Hersheson and Pixiwoo's Sam and Nic, as well as my own struggles, and in realising this was a much bigger issue was keen to speak to an expert on the subject. Chloe Brotheridge has written the book The Anxiety Solution, which is a really important read whether you suffer with anxiety yourself, or know someone who does. As well as detailing her own experiences with anxiety and panic attacks the book also offers realistic solutions to bringing down your anxiety levels as well as the comfort of reassuring you that you're not alone.  In this podcast

From her blossoming acting career, her Showgirl show, her tireless work as an activist within the LGBTQ community as well as how she navigated her own transition.  I first came to know of Carmen when she appeared in series three of RuPaul's Drag Race, but a lot has changed since then. 05/03/2017 Duration: 01h21min

Rock chicks of the world unite! Caroline and I met at a Mötley Crüe concert, which is why this show starts, not with a deep-dive into all things skincare, but a reverie of our favourite rock bands - and rock gods. We talk about the concerts we were both at in the 1980s, the rock stars that make us go weak at the knees and Caroline's incredible backstage experiences... Music aside, Caroline is famous in the beauty world for her no-nonsense approach to skincare - an objective approach earned from over thirty years in the industry. Her reviews have the ability to sell-out product - dubbed 'The Caroline Hirons Effect' - and leave the shelves of major beauty retailers completely bare. She has worked on the shop floor, has consulted for years with brands and has probably had something to do with the creation of many of the products living in your bathroom cabinet right now.  Because, who doesn't love an instagram story..? Caroline is someone I've admired for a while, not least because she seems true to and at eas
