SHARON — Sharon Hospital has earned its initial Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. This approval demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to meeting rigorous standards of care for stroke patients, an announcement from the hospital said. A Joint Commission certification team evaluated Sharon Hospital’s stroke program including diagnostic and treatment protocols, support services for patients and caregivers, and continuous clinical performance improvement measures. The independent reviewers determined that the hospital consistently achieves standards of care — such as safety, time to treat and patient education upon discharge from hospital — resulting in improved outcomes for stroke patients, the announcement said.

As part of its continued investment in the region, Nuvance Health has appointed Christina McCulloch, MBA, BSN, RN, as President of Sharon Hospital. McCulloch has worked at Sharon Hospital for more than eight years, most recently serving as Chief Nursing Officer since 2018, and will begin her new role in the coming weeks. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 5-7PM. SHARON COLLECTS: Samplers from the Collection of Alexandra Peters Before adding a sampler to her collection, Sharon, CT resident Alexandra Peters researched the lives of the sampler makers and the world revealed by their needlework. The girls in this collection were touched by abolition, the Underground Railroad, and the anti-slavery movement. A few girls settled the Connecticut Western Reserve, others were educated at the three exceptional academies for girls in northwest Connecticut. Quaker girls created elegant darning samplers, and older girls stitched elaborate tales from classical history and literature. Some girls in England sewed world maps. Other girls in the United States documented th
